Unitiqute2 and dynaudio

Hello all joakim, new member here from sweden.
Have been in hifi for about 25 years but without a system for several years now. Just moved to a house in the country so i have a room about 18m2 and about to getting a budget system just to enjoy music again.
This time without the hifi hat on just enjoy music.

And then my thought went to naim.
Remeber listen to naim 5s when it came it liked the musicality and grove but never owned a naim product.

I also like dynaudio speakers but know they want power.
I read here some people say they really enjoy both atom snd unitiqute2 with dynaudio even have they not have that much power.

I have decide to go for a unitiqute2 and have also found a contour 1.1.
Do you think it will sound okey in my 18m2 room?

Im not playing loud.

Or if you have some other good speakers that go well with naim and the unitiqute2 im moste greateful for your opinions

Best regards

Joakim

51 views and no one ? It vallentiens day guys, i thought you naim people would help out , but dont i dont up yet…:hugs::hugs:

I haven’t used the Dynaudio Contours with the UQ2, but I did successfully use the Emit M20, which were a superb pairing, and together they had a hand in glove synergy that was hugely enjoyable, if not the last word in forensic detail retrieval or bass extension and control. The UQ2 may struggle with the higher end Contour range, and perhaps something a little more in keeping with the Uniti’s modest power output and cost like the Evoke may be a better bet?

I used to run an Atom (40WPC) with Dynaudio Excite X44. Sounded excellent but ran out of steam in my 32m2 room on some music at my normal “loud but not extremely loud” listening level.

Upgraded to the Nova and the extra headroom was refreshing and welcome.

Hi and thanks for your info, yes i have read the emit 20 goes well, and i have looked at it.
I just reallymlike the look of the older ones and can get that one with dyna stands for good money to. I se evoke is 84db so maybe not so easy that either. I have heard that the older dynaudios are more struggle to drive then newer, so i think you right about the emit 20. My thought was if it would be ok in smaller room on low level and maybe in future connect a good poweramp to the q2. Just im on a budget right now. But i have ssen the emit used also and that one in black looks ok to me,

Yes thats a big room to, but i guess the watt on naim is real watt and they also have good current so they seem to punch above there specs.Yes and its not just about volume its about control,

Thanks alot for your input👍

My room is about 17m2. I once had a UnitiQute with Dynaudio Contour S1.3. I ended up getting a NAP 250-2 to drive them from the UnitiQute (and I got a NAC 202 after that). The UnitiQute alone just didn’t have what the Contours needed. I found it especially lacking with classical music. You’ll get a sound out of it and it will be pleasant enough, but the Contours won’t show what they’re capable of.

With a UnitiQute I would think about different, more efficient speakers.

Hi and thanks alot yes that was my feeling you csn drive them but not so you se whst the speakers are capabel of.

You have som good advice of speaker for q2

You think q2 with a good poweramp connected to it will be be good for the contour or will you destroy balance in the q2?

J

Hi yes i now se that this is a power amp sorry im not know the naim stuff yet i thought it was a more powerful integreated☺️

Well this should not destroy the balance of q2 witch i have sern som writren then.
Ii se a used 200 here in sweden,
I guess this is an ealier modeo then ?

But you think 250 is the best way if i go with dynaudios then ?

Best regards Joakim

You can add a power amp to a UQ but be aware that UQs are getting old now and the screens fade and die. They can be replaced but the streaming architecture is also old, and its quality as a source is significantly behind that of the later Atom. That has a bit more power too. I would much rather have an Atom alone (new or s/h) than an old UQ with a 250. You can add an old 250 to the Atom later if you want. I have had all these options in my second system at some point so I speak from experience. The Atom can front up a very decent system, it is that good. The UQ was a good device but the Atom is a bit special for the money in my opinion. There’s a reason why it keeps winning awards and is still so popular.

Speaker choices are huge. You could widen your options from Dynaudio? Best bet is to get a dealer demo with your chosen source.

Bruce

Hi Bruce and thank you🙏
Yes i agree with you
My problem is im on q budget.
The atom seems to be around 1300 euro or more
The q2 with new display i found is 450 euro.
The speakers with stand the same.
But im not decided for dynaudio brand, i have not even heard one☺️ but i like the look of the old ones and like more neutral speakers and balanced.

But the whole Idea with q2 was to have an all in one keep it simple and buy a older quality product for a good used price rather then a newer product.

My budget is max 900 euro all included so that why q2 got interested in it.

But i completely agree with you in everything you say, its just that part with….money and somehow get the most quality out of them.

Best regards and thanks Joakim

Sure, but people were suggesting adding a 250 or similar to a Qute and you seemed to be agreeing hence my observations.

If you get a Qute check how bright the display is. They fade out over time. I think they can still be replaced but as long as you can get the initial setup done via the screen you can use it all via the app after that so it isn’t a killer. Get the settings to switch off the display after a few seconds too, this saves the screen a bit longer.

Don’t forget to budget for speaker cable. A5 is the ‘obvious’ with a Qute, and it is sensible money. Linn K20 or Chord Rumour cheaper alternatives. You can often find these three on auction sites. Really cheap stuff is a false economy.

Have fun.

Bruce

Yes thats correi thought maybe in a future if money is there. But somehow i missing the point with this unit i think if starting to ad upgrades, better to find a pair of speaker that goes well with it and stay simpel , yes cables i have left hete from the days of the expensive hifi days som they will be the best part of the whole setup i think :innocent:

Thanks alot for your time and

Best regards Joakim

And the q2 im thinking of changed screen a year ago👍

I’d pick the qute over an atom all day long.
Pick the right speaker and you’ll be set.
The smaller totems are good, you might find dreamcatcher. Also neat iota. Or Dali.

Why?

Welcome to the forum! Lots of great advice here.

I have a UQ1 and a UQ2 that I’ve been running for years in either my office (15m2) or the lounge. They’re brilliant units. In terms of speaker pairing, I’ve had them on Q Acoustics 3030s, old Paradigm Titans, a set of Klipsch Heresy III (!) and now running the UQ2 on Neat Iotas.

The Neat Iota’s are without a doubt my favourite pairing; extremely musical, enough detail, will play louder than a small room needs, and respond well to the 30w that Qute puts out. I’ve even had them in the much larger lounge and the perform very well. But they are ideal for small to medium size rooms.

Dynaudio’s Emit 10 at the entry-level point of the range are nominal 6ohm 85db sensitivity - which I think is very similar to the Neat Iotas. Ideally you’d audition them in that room, but in my experience the Neats are an almost perfect pairing if you can find them. If Dynaudios are easier to come by, try and grab a good conditioned used pair. If they’re not great, move them on and try again. Makes the hobby fun and interesting. Good luck!!

Bias against all atom/star/nova.

Rather than having owned both?

Why the bias?

Bruce

Thanks :pray:great to hear, yes problem i dont sern the neats used. I have a max on around 450 euro for speaker so need to find some used i think.
Otherwise i like the neat speakers when i heard bigger ones years ago.
Glad to se you like the q2, sounds like there id slot of you guys who still like this unit for a small more simpel used setup. That was my thought all in one for good price but still good quality and start to enjoy music again, also like the look of it, not so much the newer ones with big screens, a bit old i guess:face_with_peeking_eye::smiling_face:
