Okey thankyou good to know from guys with experince thats why im here:smiling_face:
I have not heard a Unitilite; would expect it to be pretty good though. Depends on if you want the ability to play CDs.
Well cd is not important could be nice if internet is down, but i was more thinking about 15 extra watt. Im not sure about the streaming /dac part if they are at the same level
According to my notes, the UQ1 had the later streaming board from 2012 onwards (Serial Number >=334879)
Another way to check is to have a look at the rear side. If it mentions the module H8NWLL3120, that’s the old one (see photo in the link)
naim-unitiqute.jpg (1450×1088)
The 24/192 board is identified as ZUCSEDMP3; see photo of UQ2 below

Apart from the streaming board, it seems that the DSP + DAC were changed from UQ1 to UQ2. That’s the info I have gathered over the years.
Year | Streamer | Streaming card | DSP | DAC chip |
---|---|---|---|---|
2010 | Uqute | Audivo edmp1/2 (not 24/192) + WiFi module Askey Computer Corp. H8NWLL3120 → 2012 SeDMP3 | Burr-Brown SRC4392 | Wolfson WM8728 |
2013 | Uqute2 | Audivo GmbH SeDMP3 | TI SRC4392? | PCM1793? |
I hope this helps!
This is the WiFi card not the streaming module.
The unitiqutes all contain edmp1/2/3 made by audivo.
Look at this post for correct information.
Indeed you are right. I have edited my table accordingly.
In any case the mention of H8NWLL3120 in the rear side means that the UQ contains either of edmp1/2, while ZUCSEDMP3 corresponds to the edmp3 (which has built-in WiFi), so that should be helpful enough for the OP.
Unless the uq has been upgraded with a newer board; the rear panel will not be changed.
There’s a video on YouTube by stereodesignsandiego that is various still images internally of the unitiqute v1; you can see the TI dsp chip, and probably you can make out the dac chip.
Probably true. In that case best to check the BC SW value to be certain.
Thank you so much for your time and info.
On my to options both says 192 so both have the same streaming , im just wondering if it is like the naim guy said to me that there are more difference between the late q1 with 24/192 and the q2.
And if so what hardware difference i did not get any more answer on that.
I also feel a bit strange about the other statement that the q1 24/192 and the q2 are the same because naim did not want those who bought the late q1 to feel like they lost something?
But then you could say they who bought the q2 feeld that way if the indeed they are the same….
Thanks so much, So if i understand you correct the late q1 that says 192 behind wifi antenna is indeed the same as the q2?
The Q2 has Bluetooth, the Q1 doesn’t. There are probably other differences as well.
Hi well thats only the latest model q2 that has bluetooth not the first version of the q2👍
No, they are not the same. They just have the same streaming card.
If you google for the UQ2 review from WhatHiFi, you can read more about the improvements that were made to the UQ2 (improved printer circuit board layout etc.) which lead to improved sound.
Yes i saw that but is that but firstboff in mynopinion what hifi is one of the worst review places to look, in my opinion, and second im not sure wich one they compare to when they say :
Mind you, all of this was true of the first UnitiQute. Where the new machine scores over the old is almost certainly down to the changes to the digital section of the PCB. The UnitiQute 2 is a cleaner listen than the outgoing machine, with greater authority when it comes to the leading edge of notes and an even more martial way of organising a soundstage.
They dont say if its the later q1 with 24/192 or if its the first 24/96, wich if i would guess it is, because i think it was that one they tested first.
Don’t get hung up on reading specs - if you want Tidal streaming and bluetooth with a bit more punch, the UQ2 is the right answer.
Well to me it matters wich is the best, no bluetoth i will not use and the q2 i had ordered wich they now try to fix did not have that.
Regarding the late q1 and the early q2 it seems difficult to se if it is some difference. But maybe i will go some step upmin the naim chain if i will go with the contour if not the late q1/q2 will be fine i think will wait and se if the will fix the one i had at home…
Coming back to this, for completeness. I just came across a second hand UQ 1st gen, which had been upgraded with the 192 board.
On the rear panel there are stickers “192kHz”, as well as the one mentioning “ZUCSEDMP3”. I would imagine there is a legal compliance requirement to state the correct transmitter modules. Of course a sticker is a sticker and may come off and so on.
Image can be seen in the following link, I hope it’s OK to share:
Ah ok fair enough, they’ve added a couple of stickers, I suppose that “192” is the key. What I meant was, they don’t replace so it says “unitiqute 2”.
True. UQ2 has further changes anyway.
