Unitiqute2

Hi guys.

Wondering if anyone can help.

I’ve just recently moved and intend on setting up my Unitiqute2 which has been in storage for the past 5yrs or so.

In that time my music streaming service has changed from Tidal to Apple Music. Am I right in saying the Unitiqute2 doesn’t stream over AirPlay? If not, is there a way I can stream my music from my phone via Apple Music or is the Unitiqute obsolete to me now (I hope not!)?

Thank you in advance.

The best way to add Airplay support for your UQ2 is to use an Apple Airport Express or Apple TV and then connect into one of the UQ2’s Toslink s/pdif inputs. I do just this with the UQ2 I use in my office and it work very nicely, and with secondhand AE units available for around £10 it’s not expensive either.

Instead of Airplay, the Unitiqute used Apple’s ‘Made for iPhone’ certification to allow it to work via the USB port.
Alternatively, buy a cheap used Airport Express from eBay and connect this to the Unitiqute with an optical cable.

By the way, if you haven’t already done so, it’s well worth updating the firmware on your UQ2 so you can take advantage of various improvements and especially the most recent addition of Naim’s own Internet Radio service.

Thanks for your prompt replies!

Off to eBay I go to source an AirPort Express!

If it is a later UQ2 that has bluetooth (both of mine do), you could of course stream over bluetooth from your phone to the UQ2

I find that Airplay sounds better than Bluetooth, and if the UQ2 is in an open faced cabinet under a screen, like it is in my case then BT can be rather flakey unless you are very close by to it.

I’ve often mused that a UQ2 + Wiim of some sort is a ludicrously compact and up to date package that does everything, exceptionally well!
