Unitiserv-ssd rip not enough space 1000MB

When trying to rip multiple cd’s with a Unitiserv-ssd I often get the not enough space message, yet when I look at the n-Serve “Network Stores” (on a Mac in case it is important) I see more than 1GB free. After trying many reboots, move rips to another store etc etc I finally sussed it.
In the in the “Network Stores” tab you have click away from the onboard d:\vader\music to any other store, then click back. The free space will then update and show the correct value. This seems to often take a bit (1 minute?) before it updates, so wait a while after clicking the other store.

I mean 1gig is not a lot of space, you are basically out of space.

Ripping a CD to FLAC can easily take 300-500Mb. The software probably also needs some temporary space. So, 1Gb is really not much space at all.

If it rips to wav (650 mb), then converts to flac (325 mb), then deletes the wav, 1gb is barely enough.

Depending on the filesystem type of the NAS, it will also require anywhere between 15% and 5% free space just to ensure the filesystem can function.

Naim recommended at least 4GB of spare storage space on the Unitiserve hard drive so you are already running on empty. Any computer hard drive needs some spare capacity in order to function normally.
However, I wonder if you are referring to the small internal SSD when you say, “…click away from the onboard d:\vader\music…” If you rip many CDs in succession it’s possible that you may be exceeding the 16GB capacity of this drive, which only stores the files temporarily pending transfer to the designated music store. It may be that you simply need to give it a bit more time to process the files and complete the metadata lookup.
If you are storing in FLAC this will take considerably longer. The conversion takes place one track at a time and can easily cause a backlog to build up.

Yes it is the ssd with 8GB total. My point with this post was to alert folks to the misleading behavior of the n-serve app not updating it’s reporting of space available without active intervention by the user. It would be much better if it auto updated eg every 20 seconds what the free space and usage is on each drive.

What its reporting in a GUI and what it knows are probably two different things. Once you are down into 1 gig territory all bets are off with literally any operating system from the last 20 years. Where did you find an 8 gig ssd? I seem to recall even the naim ones were 16.

It is the d:\vader partition that is 8GB, I guess the other 8 is the operating system on the c:.
As long as I follow the procedure in my original post it always does the rip as long as it reports more than 1GB available on d:
