I thought I’d follow up with this group about the Naim in my system. I’m pleased to report that in terms of network function, it is just like a NAS that sits on the network. Flac files that it produces can be transferred from its Music store to anywhere on the network.
Most importantly, the files it generates sound spectacular – far better than the USB connected Asus drive on the iMac or even the files produced by the plextor drive in my old Windows machine. Why this should be the case is a matter of conjecture. All the rips with the Asus and the Plextor used DBpoweramp software and its “bit perfect” error checking. Naim undoubtedly has its own error checking software, but I’m sure the hardware also plays a role. It is a solid, isolated unit with a dedicated power supply. My guess, FWIW.
