My Unitiserve hard drive sounds like it is about to fail. I bit the bullet and after reading various threads decided to go for a Synology NAS (my ReadyNAS NV+ is too old to allow for installation of new UPNP). File transfer (.WAV) worked fine onto Synology. My NDX streamer recognises the Synology NAS and sees the music, but only recognises the song titles, not the artist or album. What is the most efficient way of batch fixing the metadata? I have tried Metadatics, Songkong, mp3tag, dbpoweramp and others, but none work well if at all. Converting to FLAC outside of the NAIM native system doesnt seem to fix the metadata issue (though i only tried it on one song). Anyone else done the conversion away from Unitiserve and have any good tips
I transferred a friends US Naim generated .WAV to a Synology some years ago.
Naim generated WAV is a ānon-standardā format and must first convert to FLAC on the Naim US before transferring over.
It can be done with some other 3rd party software(s) when not on the US; Iām not sure which, but believe SongKong might do this.

WAV (WAVEform Audio Format) is an uncompressed lossles audio format developed by Microsoft/IBM. Its metadata tags, cover art and file headers follow a standard RIFF structure and are embedded as a LIST-INFO chunk.
Naim have chosen not to follow the standard RIFF structure and instead carry the metadata as an associated file that can only play on Naim players, however Naim players can play the standard RIFF INFO chunk encoded WAV files.
Quite so. I believe the version of SongKong that is specifically intended for Melco owners who are wanting to use their music that had been ripped in WAV with a Naim server is the only software that will do this well.

Convert the WAV files to FLAC on the Unitiserve while itās still working and other UPnP servers will have no problem accessing the metadata.
@ralf1 ā¦. just to add, I too have HDX and Synology + Asset UPnP.
I used to have all WAV and few DSD, but foreseeing an upcoming space problem, I converted all the WAV to FLAC using dBpoweramp Batch Converter. It took best part of all night to complete but it saved a huge amount of space.
I now play FLAC files transcoded to WAV.
This is an Asset function with WAV set to āPlay Asā FLAC. Itās the very best of both worlds.

The dbpoweramp batch conversion is no use to you. It has to be done on the Unitiserve to make the metadata available. Do it in N-Serve if you use a Mac, or the Desktop Client on Windows.
Hi Ralf, Iāve never owned a US, it was on a friends who I helped with his disability issues.
As I recall it was quite simple to do this, but after so long ago, its best a real up to date US user give you that info.
I had an HDX and to convert, if I remember well is in the N-Serve Windows or Mac app, in the settings probably.
Using the desktop client (DTC) go to the top level of your music folder, which will very likely be called MQ. Right click and choose āencode to flacā. This will initiate a conversion of the complete library. It took two full days to convert my library, and you can see progress in the DTC.

Fingers crossed. Itās a good idea to try one album first, just to make sure youāve got it right.
I suggest that you do this in batches as itās quite time consuming. I once did it one genre at a time as a convenient way to break down a large library.

So I have tried it this evening and for some reason US converted three albums to FLAC and now thinks it is done. Whenever I right-click on albums, genres or artists to encode to FLAC it says 0 albums and 0 songs are being queued. Any ideas?
Click on whatever is at the top of the file structure, probably MQ. That will do the whole lot.
Sounds like you made multiple attempts to convert various groups of albums, which may have confused the US. I would restart it, then try again, perhaps just with one album to start with.
Use SONGKONG converter.
It reads Naim metadata correctly creating any uncompresses file format e.g. WAV, AIFF etc etc.
I put a post here as well: since last firmware update on both NDX2 and Atom, it looks like they are not able anymore to read Unitiserve Metadat via UPnP.
Anybody else with the same situation?

The reason the desktop application as well as the US own software only converted three albums to FLAC is because the rest had previously been restored and therefore sat in ādownloadsā rather than āMQā from where I couldnāt move them.
My troubles with Songkong came from me trying to install it onto the NAS itself, but I realised that I can have Songkong work its magic by networking in from my MacOS laptop. Best Ā£50 spent.
