I’m new to this forum and looking for some advice on upgrading my setup, likely in stages. Right now, I am running a Naim Uniti Nova with Focal Sopra 1 speakers. While I love their sound, I feel they might be a bit small for my room, which is 8m x 10m with a 2.7m ceiling.
I’d like to add more depth and a greater sense of space to the sound. Would upgrading to Sopra 2s/PMC’s 26i be the better move, or would adding a NAP 250/300 to my setup bring more noticeable improvements?
Thanks for your reply that’s really interesting. I did consider replacing the Nova with the NSC 222 and a NAP 250, but that is quite a significant investment. I might demo the Nova Power Edition instead. Interesting about the hicap, I know a power source like the HiCap can not be upgraded on a Nova. Might be worth investigating into a Powerline cable would make a noticeable difference on a nova.
That’s a huge room at least by UK standards and I’m not surprised your system sounds a little underpowered. Bigger speakers should help, but I’d then be contemplating an upgrade to your Nova.
One possibility would be to start by trading your Nova for a Nova PE, with a view to swapping the speakers for something meatier as the second step.
If you like PMC speakers, another route would be to go for a streamer/pre such as NSC222 with active speakers such as 25i. I think active ATC SCM 40s might fit the bill even better, but I am biased!
That makes sense. I think I will start by demoing the Nova PE and possibly a Hegel 400 in the first instance. That should give me a good sense of how each option performs in my space before deciding on the next step.
