Upgrade options for full NC300 set

I hope it’s not a duplicate. I have the full 6 box NC300 and trying to gather future upgrade paths for it, I thought I’d first reach out to the forum.

  • Second NPX300 for NSS333: I read ND555 owners adding a second power supply and getting great results, is doing the same technically possible for NSS333? Anyone tried it yet?
  • Superlumina interconnects: I read a bit about the Classic owners getting great results with these, I wanted to see if anyone chose this path for NC300. I’m not sure where to start, DIN-5 between 332-333 or the XLR’s between 332 and 350s?
  • DC Blocker: This one is a bit off the path, I don’t even know if I have a DC problem but considering the number of boxes I have, I thought a bit power line fine tuning could benefit the full system. I use a V5 Sigmas power conditioner and happy with it. One of the options I thought about is adding Isotek’s Syncro Uni box in front of the conditioner as a DC cleaner. An alternative use case can be to plug the 350’s direct to wall with a Synchro Uni box in between and bypass the conditioner. I have no idea what to expect but considering home demo for this option.

Looking forward to insights from the forum.

I meant a second NPX300 on 333.

If you do this I would be interested to hear what you think about it. I have a full 300 system except for an NC250 as the power amp.
Have you considered getting another NPX TT so you can have a separate power supply for the Solstice and the NVC TT?

I’m thinking of trying the Syncro Uni as the first step since second NPX300 is a bit steep
Happy to report what I find out.

It’s definitely something I would consider and maybe need to add that to the list. I also read about Solstice owners seeing the difference with a NPX300.

I have heard of the NPX300 powering the Solstice and have wondered how much of the SQ uplift is due to the NVC having sole use of the NPX TT. When I had the demo of the NVC and NPX I fully expected to walk out without it as I was such an expense. It blew me away so I bought it, the system synergy of the NC really brings out the best of the NVC or is it the other way around?

Start by adding Vertere’s Redline cables. Vertere supply the SL cables (not the connectors), and the effect is similar - greater separation, lower noise floor, more precise and deeper bass. Start with interconnects, especially the XLR, then speaker cables. You can get them on loan from dealers to try at home.

So full NC300 series and asking for upgrades already :man_shrugging:t3::man_shrugging:t3::man_shrugging:t3:

I have a full 300 system with both NPX300s. SL speaker cables were a good uplift. Lifting them off the floor was an audible additional bump. SL DIN interconnect between 333 and 332 was an even larger one. And, most surprisingly to me, the most consequential, night and day upgrade for the 300 system came after installing a high quality music server (I use Roon). In my case I went for the K41. A good shunyata ethernet cable (sigma) between the K41 and the 333 made an additional and substantial improvement.

Yes, I have a Linn streamer, but optimising all of the network and especially the final leg to the streamer makes a significant difference.

Thanks for the recommendation on this brand, I wasn’t aware of them. I have a Shunyata loom, they’re pretty new so I don’t plan on touching the power/ethernet cables. But I’ll check their analog interconnects for DIN5 upgrade.

I concur with the effects of the ethernet cable, especially Shunyata. I have the Alpha X going from the switch to 333, what a difference. In the past I experimented with Omega ethernet cable as the switch replacement but it’s not either or, it’s both.
Question on the SL DIN between 333 and 332: What was the difference in SQ? Similar to the level of adding a Sigma ethernet cable for example?

It’s hard to treat upgraditis

Thanks for the insight on this. So how did you configure the system? NPX running Solstice or NVC?

I have a six-box 300 series system. I’ve gradually replaced the stock Naim cabling with SL. I picked up a second hand SL DIN cable for a good price and it gave a substantial uplift. I bit the bullet and bought new (although discounted) SL speaker cables and have also been really pleased with them (previous cables were Tellurium Q Black). I then bought the SL XLR cables to complete the set. They improve SQ but to my ears they don’t make as big a difference as the DIN and speaker cables.

It was different. The Sigma for me increased separation. The SL DIN increased clarity and realism vs. the transparent XLRs I was using before.

I don’t have Solstice, I was just commenting on what I have heard people with a Solstice were doing. I have heard one a few times and was very impressed with it, but now I have the NVC, I think a good part of what impressed me about the Solstice was the NVC TT, which to my ear is an excellent phono stage.

I have to agree with Blackstar your kit is so new and a big investment,so why the need to even consider upgrading. These days with my mixed CB,olive and old classic I buy more music than I do worrying about what I might or might not be missing. Some years ago I was banned off another site for suggesting that too much available funds was also a cause of “FOMO”. With other expenses that hound most of us I sleep soundly in the knowledge that my CC kit is fully serviced, the plugs are all clean and I never leave a listening session dissatisfied.
