Upgrade pre-amp from Supernait2

Thanks Richard,

I think as it is a common -ve out of the hicap , even though the signal has passed through monoblocks I can connect the REL to the speakers. I just have to work out if I need to Siamese the negatives of the two S600 speakers or can I take just the -ve from 1 speaker. REL did not recommend doing this from monoblocks but suggested picking up the speaker outputs from a power amplifier rather than at the speaker end.
All a bit confusing…… Tom.

REL will recommend the usual way, which would be correct for amps other than Naim.

I’m running a REL sub into the back of my SN2 and it doesn’t seem to be causing any issues. Is there something I should be listening out for, in particular? I’m using designacable’s (much cheaper) version of REL’s bassline blue cable designed for Naim amps.

Thanks.

It can cause obvious issues such as buzzing or humming, or more annoyingly, seem to cause no issues but just lower overall performance.

If you are using the Naim version of the Bassline Blue cable (Rel or Designacable version) it is specially modified to ensure compatibility with any Naim amp, so you should be fine.

Thanks Richard,
I ran + & - from each speaker terminal to a connection block, joining the -ve wires there and then terminal block to REL high level Neutrik connection & it works - acid test “Safe Word” serpentwithfeet with an ornament-rattling bass line.
Now ready for the 82 and hi-cap…… Tom

It so happens that the individual purchasing the second hand 552 combo has a 52/supercap combo, so the dealer put a trade together & I have jumped straight to my (hopefully) end position without going through the 82 twin hi-cap stage.
It should arrive in the next few days……

Wow, that’s a pretty great outcome.

I’m well pleased as that should be well matched to an NDX2/ XPS2 front end. Sadly I have already purchased a second hand hi-cap that I was hoping to use with the NAC82. If it arrives before the 52 I can give it a test……

What will the finished system be?
A spare hicap can power a headline or stageline.

My LP12 NAS & Wadia CD have now gone to my son as it is some years since I spun any sort of disc on my home system, strictly Qobuz now, so system will be:
NDX2/XPS2>NAC52/Supercap>EAR509>Ovator S600
so other than playing around with cables I think that will be it

Unless I get upgradeitis.

555ps on the ndx2
No, get the 332…..
Etc
Just ignore it if you can!
That’s quite a system already, I think you’re set.

So the NAC52 & supercap arrived &, after much cursing, I have them installed in the system. Despite their age there has been a significant improvement, tighter bass, better separation and clarity, all in all a much more engaging listening experience.
