Use of tall Fraim shelf for 552

I had read it on this forum, but had not experienced it yet : using a tall Fraim shelf to allow more room around the 552 and between the 552 and 555 has made a really nice difference.

More precise and wider soundstage, tighter bass, more air. I’m amazed !

The system sounds great

Nice! I believe that’s Medium fraim though. Sizes are Standard, Medium, Tall where Tall give some more air around the 500 too. Tall has the height of two standard shelves.

That was my finding too.Another good upgrade is to not have the electronics between the speakers.

Yes, it’s an easily noticeable improvement, isn’t it! The 552 really likes air around it as does most Naim gear.

An empty shelf above the 500 also helps, though I’m not sure how big a difference it makes with the ND555 - I already had things set up that way when I got mine. The tall shelf is what you already have.

Been waiting 2 months for Tall legs to rebuild my Fraim and place my 500 at the bottom. No idea when they will show up.

You’re right @Blackbird, it’s actually a medium size shelf ! perhaps i should have gone for a size above

Thanks, I’m super happy with the speakers. They took a while to settle in, but it was a major step up vs. the Sopra 2 (that i liked very much). If i had a bit more space to position them further apart it would be even better, but this is my living room… and i’m not alone at home…

It took 5 months to get a Fraim standard size shelf, I had placed my order back in December

Medium height is ideal, better still if you had room for a third stack

Intermediate shelves are just fine here, so I wouldn’t worry too much, and they are probably slightly more stable too, which is a bonus!

Aesthetically, intermediate shelves work well too.

Now on the right stack i have 4 standard height shelves with the 3 power supply units on the top 3 shelves. I’m wondering whether i should have kept the top shelf empty instead. Shift everything down ? Perhaps the 552 would benefit from being further away from its PS ?

I was thinking about going medium snug fit around my 500 or tall with the difference that the shelves align when side by side. I have standard shelves on the right so went 1 tall on the left so shelves align left/rights stack giving some more air around the 500. I’m thinking on stacking like this on the left stack to give more air around the 552 too. Thing is I like the snug fit around fraim and boxes so it’s a struggle in what to prioritise since I already know the below will not look as good but maybe sound bit better… :see_no_evil:

552 top
empty Standard
NDS Standard
500 Tall

Same here. Medium look right to me for the 500 seems to hide the mass of the 500.

Not sure if a bigger gap is required between 552 and 500, anyway sounds fantastic.

You could also try swapping position of 552 with nd555

Ignore him, it’s a trap! Empty shelves are there to encourage you to buy another box to fill it

You need room for the second 555PS :joy:

Of course, I thought of it… read some reviews, …but the benefits of adding a 2nd PS do not always seem obvious
