I think the ethernet won’t be managed the same at the physical level - and is likely encapsulated / or converted such as with perhaps USB Class 02 with a SubClass code of Ethernet Networking Control Model

Seems very much a solution in search of a problem. I suppose if you’ve got some unused boutique USB cables floating about it’s worth a punt if the adapters are cheap. But keep in mind most USB cables are short, so you’d have to have your modem very (uncomfortably imo) close. Better to try via a dedicated switch.
