Using a NAC 552 with Accuphase Power Amp

Hi,

I have been wanting to understand the connection issues of a Naim Pre-Amp with a non Naim Power amp, not that I want to do away with my NAP500, but as a possible exercise for the future. I have read that a successful interface between a NAC 52 and an Accuphase P-AMP using the NAC power supply interface to connect it to the Accuphase, but I would like to understand if this is any different with my 552.

As said this is just a discussion on the technicalities of the interconnections, being Naim very proprietary oriented on their interfaces.

Thanks

Salvo

You’d simply connect it to the same sockets on the 552PS that you currently use with your 500.

It’s the same principle as the NAC 52 setup. You’re just taking the signal ‘out’ from the 552PS instead of the Supercap/52PS.

But honestly, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a non-Naim amp that can match the synergy and grip of the NAP 500.

Ok, so if I get this, you have to use socket that goes to stereo power amplifiers (as per manual) to the power amp. So you need a special cable. The question remains how to connect the 5 pin DIN cable for + and - for each channel.

All three 4-pin DIN output sockets are the same. You just need to check with Naim which pin is which, as the manual appears not to say, and then have whatever plug a Accuphase might need on the other end. But why bother? The Naim 552 and 500 work as one.

Yeah I know, I will never change my NAP 500 (specially after it has been recapped). It’s just to know how to do it for wanting to try with a friend’s kit.

For the configuration order of the 4 pin DIN, I am not sure that Naim would provide this info?

Maybe Dave can help?

This is the Supercap’s pins.

The 552 PS will be the same as you can connect a 250 to either, using the same supplied cable.

The DIN 4 pin-out is a standard naim have used for decades across the supercap, hicap and 552PS.

Top left pin - channel 2 (right signal)

Top right pin - channel 1 (left signal)

Bottom right - nc

Bottom left - signal ground

Thank you so much all for the help.

Will come back on the forum when I’ll manage to do the test.

4 pin Din to RCA:

Thank you. That is great!

I used to run a Rega power amp from the ps of my naim pre using two Naim supplied single channel cables, DIN one end, red or black RCA the other. Wouldn’t hurt to ask if they’ll still do them.
