So I borrow a room analyser and play around a bit. Only A/B testing the amp and all other stay the same. Top graph is for Atom and bottom is for Marantz. Seems Marantz bump up certain frequencies…Is that what cause the differences?
Yes, I think that is what you are experiencing, and maybe it is what you got used to over time as well when watching movies.
