Trying to copy an album from the iTunes folder to the HDX downloads folder by copying and pasting (Windows 10) but no go. Similar story trying to copy to a USB drive plugged in to the HDX - neither folder can be copied to. I’ve done this before so I’m not sure where I’m going wrong unless it’s a Windows 10 problem (PC I’m using was probably on Win 8 the last time I copied to the HDX downloads folder). HDX is appearing as a network device rather than a device or drive which may a factor. Any ideas?
Trying this route because the metadata is incorrect when ripped directly to the HDX but fine when ripped to iTunes.
Another possible way to give the HDX access to this music would be to allow it to access the iTunes folder, which it would scan and incorporate into its library. Possibly not your chosen way to do things, but at least it could prove whether or not the files were playable on the HDX.
I suspect it’s a SMB version issue as mentioned by @Blythe
Didn’t the US/HDX/NS0x use SMBv1…? I think Windows 10 onwards defaults to v2 and upwards…So you may need to enable SMBv1.
I’m a Mac user so not very au fait with Windows, but I think you need to enable ‘SMB 1.0/CIFS Client’ – this should help connect a legacy share such as a NAS, which the HDX effectively is…If that works, you can get away with not enabling ‘SMB 1.0/CIFS Server’ – think that’s the bit that weakens security on Windows and hence isn’t used these days….
I’m sure if you search Microsoft there should be a How To somewhere….
Meanwhile I tried using a Mac but that doesn’t work either as I’m connected as a guest and to connect as a registered user I need a password, which I suppose needs to be set up in the HDX profile.
The files are playable as this CD was ripped successfully to the HDX, just with the wrong data. This seems a broader problem in not being able to copy any files to the downloads folder.
You don’t need a password. It’s a little misleading that the option is visible, but it’s only there to give Naim access during a service. To access the folders you don’t have to sign in, just use them like any other folder on a computer.
This doesn’t solve your issue re accessing the Downloads folder, but if the CD has ripped ok onto the HDX and you just want to edit the metadata, can you not just do this via the n-Serve App or the DTC (Windows)…? (Admittedly you would be able to add more extensive meta via a 3rd party editor, though you would need write access to the Download folder to do that, which you currently don’t seem to have…!)
Im confused re the Download folder though – it should be even easier via Mac to access…If you go via Networks from the Finder, click on the HDX, it should simply mount as a network share – click in to there (as Guest as @ChrisSU advised) and you should be able to drag and drop to the Downloads folder….
Sounds like a Read/Write permissions issue, though there shouldn’t be any ownership on the Downloads folder by default as it’s Guest access….
Do you have any other content in the Downloads – can you see any of it when mounted to your Mac/Windows…?
Yes, I can edit metadata but it’s labourious for an 18 track album.
Anyway, progress of sorts. I’ve managed to save it to the downloads folder using the Mac, I suspect it was network connection issues causing the problem before. But there is no way to edit to add the artwork as there is with albums ripped directly.
If you now have access to the Downloads folder and have copied the album files into there, then you’ll need to use a 3rd party metadata editor – I recommend Metadatics on the Mac, other recommendations are Mp3tag….You can add artwork via those Apps, or you can simply drop a Jpg into the folder of audio files (I can’t quite remember for US/HDX, but think it has to be named cover.jpg or folder.jpg ….the HDX will then use that as artwork for the album)
