Vinyl releases on pre order

Yes I noticed that, also StevieBee who I think is linked to the band.

I signed up as a subscriber, so I’ll get all of them, but the titles I look forward to most are as follows, with the last (Cherry) the most anticipated. I’ve been begging Joe Harley for years to do Complete Communion.

Andrew Hill – Grass Roots
Grachan Moncur III – Some Other Stuff
Andrew Hill – Andrew!!!
Sam Rivers – A New Conception
Jackie McLean - Jackknife
Don Cherry - Complete Communion

Yeah, I thought you would go for the Hill and Cherry titles. Good for you. Subscriber?

I might go for the Blake album, an odd choice for such a recent album, why not just release that as an ordinary vinyl option though.

Subscriber, yes. The Tone Poet Society is a new subscription package. It’s U.S.-only for now but they are working on opening it to other countries. The logistics of shipping costs, VAT, etc is the big challenge for opening it to international members.

I for one will be passing on the subscription series (not that I am eligible in the UK anyway). Expensive for what it offers.

My ‘Conn’ CD of ‘Davis Cup’ will suffice just fine.

I buy all the Tone Poets anyway (I have every release to date except for Glamoured), so the subscription actually less expensive for me since I get discounted titles. The subscription is definitely not for those who just cherry pick titles, or who wait for lowered prices on sales, etc. I like getting the new titles on release day, so this serves me well enough.

I’ve started with the Tier 3 subscription (3 months at a time) but I might switch to Tier 1 (12 months) when it comes up for renewal in February.

I tend to ‘cherry pick’ with Tone Poets and being in the UK they are not cheap so I tend to pick them up when a sale is on. I have many of the titles on originals anyway so it is not an automatic buy for me. Having said that, I have bought quite a few to fill in the gaps and/or to get a stereo pressing for titles where I have a mono. There’s no doubt about it, they are a good product.

It would be good if there could be a central UK distributor for these series, we could then order with them, appreciating that the price may be a touch higher to allow for the initial shipment to the UK.

Doesn’t Blue Note U.K. offer that service?

If you are referring to the new Tone Poet Society subscription series, then no. It is strictly U.S.-only for now. Joe Harley told me they are trying to work out subscriptions for international customers, but nothing is in place yet. The logistics of it are more problematic and they have to get that sorted first.

I saw that was the case. I thought Oxfordian was referring to a place in the U.K. where all Blue Note releases were available

Your forgot:

Walter Davis Jr. - Davis Cup

It’s not one I know so will have to listen to it ditto Grass Roots and of all the titles I may end up there is maybe only handful I’d play full price for the rest I’ll wait for a cheaper copy later on.

I’m late to jazz and have been collecting only 9 or 10 years so can’t brag of owning originals Music Matters etc. it’s all new to me and really happy about that l love discovering music I’ve never heard

Yazz Ahmed - A Paradise in the Hold, NTT (2025)

New music on her new label the title track is out now featuring beautiful artwork again by Sophie Bass.

Thanks for sharing. I’m glad to know that.

I’ve been listening to jazz since about 1976. One day I was at a friend’s house and his father put on “Compared to What” from Eddie Harris/Les McCann Swiss Movement. My jaw dropped to the floor and I was hooked forever. I started collecting jazz records in earnest after that.

To be honest if you told the 15 year old or me that I’d one day be a the owner of a 1000 or more Jazz records I’d have laughed.

And even after I discovered Kind of Blue and Chet Baker sings the idea it would lead me to a real appreciation of artists like Ornette Coleman has been a huge and wonderful surprise.

Prior to discovering Jazz music I don’t think I owned a single instrumental LP.

I think that’s awesome.

If you appreciate Ornette Coleman, definitely keep Don Cherry’s Complete Communion in your sight for the Tone Poet September release. It is arguably one of the best avant-garde sessions of the Blue Note 60s era. I’ve been begging Joe Harley all along for this and now he’s delivering on it.

Yes! I hope Symphony for Improvisors makes the cut as a Tone Poet. Where is Brooklyn is already in the BN Classics series.
