Vitus integrated amp v 552/500

Not sure on the value of service/DR…my dealer has a 552DR for £11,500 with usual dealer back up…the original would have to be cheap as chips to bother DR…ing?

Hi Bart. Been through that recently and the 500 service/ DR seemed in my case to smoothen out after a fortnight and carried on improving over at least 3 months and possibly longer.
My 552 is just over a week in after service only, but hard to judge, whether fluctations are also due to my 2 x 555PSs, which were also serviced at the same time ( all boxes 9 years since last fettle).
TBH sounding pretty good already with a distinct increase in separation and dynamics :hugs:. ATB Peter

It was a good deal, and after I traded in my 252/SuperCapDR, it was as cheap as very posh chips.

Well even after the dr and service on both units, I would still be £1.5 K in pocket, it’s all about buying at the right price, and luckily I did that with both my 552 and 500dr

Good for you and @NigelB that you got great bargains…still think it was worth flagging as i have not seen them that cheap. Hope it all goes well.

As soon as travel restrictions lift, my 552 & 300 will go for service and DR and the CDS3 for service. I have high expectations but wont have a clue which brings the most benefit. 300 was serviced 7 years ago but unfortunately just before the DR became available for the 300, so its going back early !

hi all, am having a demo at the mo with the SIA 030 and must admit I am impressed. I have a full fat 500dr system on fraim with pmc mb2’s. have had the amp here for nearly a week now and am considering making it permanent subject to the significant others approval, yes it gets warm but not significantly so, it is a beast 63kg and it is doing lot of things right for me. wife is home Monday so will see then

whisky180- interesting isn’t it? The SIA 030 lured me away from my 552/500 a little while back…no regrets. I would be interested in hearing why you like it?

The sia 030 is ment to be a nice step up on the sia 025 i had on demo, its probably what i would have ended up with after a few years, if i had moved over to vitus.
But in the end, i couldn’t be bothered to start again, plus there was something in the naim sound i still preferred.

Dunc,

You will be thrilled with the 552 DR. It will take a few months to run-in but it will be worth the wait. Your system will be magic.

I feel it has more clarity and more detail and it feels like the bass is tighter more realistic. am liking it more as time goes on. also the dac being built in means instead of 6 boxes I will have 1.
I still have to convince the mrs though, she likes the symmetry of the black boxes and fraim and we have been naimites for many years.

But as i said many times in this thread, the appeal of just one box is nice, i know the built in dac in the 030 is good, but its not a patch on my rossini, or so i was told, when i asked, as i did for a day or so, think that i could go sia 030, with the built in dac myself, but was told that i should keep the rossini and use it with the 030 for best results

I guess so, plus my 552ps and 552 is almost 18 years old and looks like its never been touched, so well past its best, i should think

whisky180, why did you get the urge to find something other than the 500 series with the pmc speakers. What does it not deliver that is making you consider the change.

to be honest it started by reading Duncs post and wondering what else was out there, then I started reading reviews of the Sia 030 and thought i wouldn’t hurt to have a demo especially as my second hand naim was worth more than a new 030 but found its ticking boxes I didn’t know needed ticking. Now I have to convince the other half!
other reasons are I am near retirement and the thought of having to service 6 boxes again is a bit daunting as well as the space it takes up, so who knows I have another week to decide

Its a hard one to finally decide on, thats for sure.
I think the biggest deciding factor is what music you listen too, if its jazz and classical, then the vitus will be the better one.
Are you running it in class A only?
I take it you have a ND555?, if so have you tried that against the built in dac?, as i would have liked to think that the naim ND555/555ps would have been better than the less than £5k slot in dac.

But do what i did, before you need to make the decision, pop the naim back in and see if you have missed it, or not. Just remember to plug it all back in to the mains a day or so before, to give it a chance to warm up.

yes class A, will defo plug the naim back in, don’t listen to classical, just blues, jazz, lounge, techno and rock. as for the dac its a 10k dac minus the case and power supply so not to far off but will try anyway

I’m also be curious to hear how you find the DAC. Do you have ND555 now?

It costs just less than £5k doesn’t it?, yes i know they have pinched it from another manufacturer, and it uses the power supply inside the 030, but it would be good to see how it gets on against the ND555, connected to the vitus.
Class A best for, blues, jazz and lounge
Class A/B for techno and rock
Also on the 030 you have the rock setting, be interested in how you find that, as well.
Take it you are dealing with richard? If so be also interested if he said anything about your PMC speakers

yes nd555
