New here. I have a new NSC222 (along with the Classic Naim stack). It’s running FW 5.0.0. When I tried streaming from the YouTube app on iPhone (presumably with Airplay 2 - it’s an iPhone 16 Pro), the value on the NSC222 jumps to Max, shattering my eardrums but thankfully not my speakers (yet). Has anyone else seen this behavior? I filed a ticket with Naim as well.
welcome to the forum - we are (generally) a welcoming bunch and always ready to help. i have only once had something similar but have now set max vol in settings - mine is set to 55
Try to remember to turn the volume down on your phone and on the 222 before sending the signal from your phone, then adjust the volume up to suit your ears.
I note you are running older FW and several later builds have been released to fix “bugs” - mostly unspecified.
However, be warned, these later releases for many have changed the SQ - and not to their liking! So I’d read up on this before upgrading the FW which “might” possibly provide a fix for your problem.
To be fair here, Naim tell me that the overview release notes are included in the FW update. These would be shown to the user via the app, or available to see on the front panel display if doing the update from the screen/remote control.
In the OP’s situation there is insufficient information in the 5.2.1 release notes to let him know whether his problem would be fixed. So I’d recommend contacting Naim Support before proceeding.
Thank you for your suggestions! I changed the ‘max volume’ setting which gives me piece of mind. I was able to reproduce a jump of 30 on volume when starting to stream from my phone which doesn’t happen when airplaying to any other device. The firmware version is the latest according to the NSC222.
I can do the same thing with Apple CarPlay, need to be careful how high the iPhone volume is set before streaming to the vehicle’s entertainment system.
