Enjoyed the highlights this evening, the large variation in the course road width was quite remarkable! Good to see an unusual suspect take the win.

It was great for me to watch. My entire town walked out to watch the race pass and the also organised a peaceful protest. I’ve also lived in Utrecht 10 years of my life and much of the parcour I’ve done with my kids when they were very young.

Oh, and my my first motorbike had an engine blowed up on the Amerongse Berg when I tried to race down as fast as possible being a teenager … sweet memories.

Stage 3: Breda - Breda (193.2km)

Stage 3, another long flat stage and a most probably win for another lucky sprinter.
The third and final stage in the Netherlands before tomorrow’s rest day flight to the Basque Country. :flight_departure:

Stage 4: Vitoria-Gasteiz - Laguardia (152.5km)

Today’s Stage 4 has the rugged terrain of the Basque Country, it’s not a particularly long or difficult stage and is unlikely to prevent some ‘climb-adept’ sprinters to commit for a win. This is a prelude to five more lengthy and mountainous stages to follow-on everyday of this week.

Stage 5: Irún - Bilbao (187.2km)

The first mountain stage of the tour!
Will be interesting to see which Jumbo-Visma rider wins the Red Jersey today

On a more serious note; this is a unpredictable stage, with the top 55 GC riders within 2 minutes of the Red Jersey the peloton won’t want to allow breakaways to get far, and with so many attacks planned and executed this could be a tense and arduous stage.

Mads Pedersen seems to be in fine form this year, would be nice to see him in the final three. :+1:

He’s not a good enough climber, he’s an excellent lightweight sprinter with far more climbing ability than pure sprinters.
In finishing 2nd in the three previous stages he has gained enough points to close-in on Sam Bennett’s Green Jersey lead.
The best plan for Mads is to go for a stage win (obviously because he’s busting to win one) but keep in contention for the Points Classification which he could win if he continues to bag sprint points along the route of hilly stages.

Stage 7: Camargo - Cistierna (190km)

Yesterday’s stage had the most (vertical) climbing in this tour at 4120m, although Stage 15 is very nearly the same, today’s stage 7 has 3359m, tomorrows 3741m, and Sunday’s 3675m.

Today’s highlight is the super-long slog-fest scramble up the Puerto de San Glorio.

Twas a bit of a Misty Mountain Hop yesterday! Pleased to see Jay Vine (through the fog) hold the lead at the finish, would have been a shame if he got pipped at the post.
