Wagner Without Words

Dear Forum Friends,

This link has expired:

I have been unwell and apologise for my laxity in reply to the post of Wagner The “Ring” Without Words.

After listening and getting oneself in the zone I enjoyed Celtic Women “Celebrate” which has some great tracks which I truly enjoyed though for me did not meld as an LP.

Then I listened to Voces8 Eventide and slipped into the zone. I will have to expand my CD library of this group.

After relaxing with my French Bulldog on the couch I tentatively placed this CD in the CDP CD5XS and was enthralled.

It has taken me many days, weeks or more to do so as I have a lot of pressing mental health medical engagements. Though doing so was a boon. All I wish to say is an extravagant thank you to the gentleman or gentlemen who recommended this CD. I do get around to it one day though may take some time to do so.

I may stretch out in the coming weeks to hear a version with words. Baby steps.

If any one can recommend VOCES8 CDs I will be very grateful.

Warm regards,

Mitch in regional Oz. I missed out on the NAIM Tuner. Hopefully there will be another time.

Glad you liked it, Mitch. I think I was about to recommend it but someone else beat me to it.

Personally, I have struggled to escape the famous conclusion that Wagner’s music has some great moments but some dreadful half-hours. I dislike the usual Wagnerian opera singing style in particular, though I’m aware of how and why it evolved that way. As such, the Maazel CD was perfect for me, though it no doubt appals purists.

I keep thinking I should also investigate his overtures etc. as a way of avoiding the singing.

Hi Mitch , it’s a very good CD and if I every did a 100 of my favourite CDs that is one , it is also available on BluRay

I came across Wagner on the film Excalibur and the use of music in that film was amazing , Siegfried’s Funeral March as the barge carries Arthur off to his rest - stunning

Take care and stay healthy

I’ve always liked this CD. It’s all instrumental- another ‘without words’ compilation. Forest Murmurs is a particular favourite of mine.
