Walnut SBLs

Some of the wood veneers could look very like each other depending on whether there was tint in the finish or not. The tint made walnut look quite like cherry and gave cherry quite a reddish look. Time, age and light of course will have changed slightly how the veneers look now. For example, I have a mixture of early and slightly later cherry Fraim levels; the early ones had quite a strong orange tint to the varnish finish but over time they have all pretty much blended in together.

Tinting walnut to look like cherry seems an odd choice to me. Surely if you wanted it to look like cherry, you’d choose cherry.

I doubt it was intentional. Cherry in those days looked much redder. And of course, colours in photos can be misleading…
