Warning in NDX2 diagnostics

What on earth are you talking about? It’s Naim’s red warning light that is the topic of this thread!

You can switch it off and back on, that must clear the ram usage

I did, my 555 was at around 4MB free RAM, it’s now running with well over 100mB free.

I did the same - but did it the fix the crashes.
Still struggling with the sound of the new fw… damn
@Eoink
How do you like it

I believe in transparency - but I think anybody getting agitated about numbers we don’t know the details about, should not have a look at these. Not unless you have problems and know how to read it, or instructed to send information to support. (Maybe there should be such a disclaimer on the page?)
This page will help Naim support likely a lot in the future, when people are reporting issues and you can send them status information, etc.

For the nerdy geeks - play around! (I e.g. looked at the buffering algorithm for loading new/the next tracks…)

Same here … but soon ram will be at its limit again

Yes, it does (get about 100mb free) but as soon as you play a few songs, it goes back down to single digits and the warning pops up again.

Same here - but have not reached singe digit. I think it’s only the free ram. Maybe it’s good when it is used to the max.

True, also depends on the definition of “free” - I think it’s running some kind of embedded Linux. When used over time, a generic Linux will usually not have any “free” memory, because it uses any available (and not otherwise needed) RAM for e.g. caching data.
Not saying this is the case here, just that you need to know the exact system to read it correctly.

I probably shouldn’t ask this but how do you access this self help ? I tried looking at the original thread and the links are to the old Naim website so don’t work and I have looked and looked on the new app and can’t find the option. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

App…settings….about….

Note IP address

Open browser

http://IPADDRESS

i.e.
http://192.168.0.10

Click Diagnostics

(Or get an app like Fing which will scan your home network showing open ports on devices and can launch webpages etc.).

Think about if you would like to go in this rabbit hole

Many thanks - that worked a treat. Fortunately all green ticks

Never a truer word said. I was thinking exactly the same thing when I wrote the first message - a totally avoidable rabbit hole. But curiosity kills this cat.

Don’t go … I speak from experience

If software updates were reliable, yes, there would be no need to check up on the system operation. But given the abysmal state of software initial releases and updates, nothing can be assumed any longer. Naim is issuing a warning for a reason (I don’t know what it is but ut strikes me as odd that the Free RAM would be 3-7 MB in the NDX2).

I guess we’re still waiting for @stevesky to give an informed response.

Just imagine if you didn’t have this feature. You’d have nothing to worry about and could go back to enjoying your music, just like you were before :sunglasses:

Hi @drago

Don’t loose sleep on that. All is fine.

What happens is that memory gets fragmented up a bit, but the key big buffers are static assigned.

You’ll find the numbers go up and down, by pc standards they are scary low, but welcome to embedded computing. :sunglasses:

Also as a side note, on cpu load stats are not so accurate on some product platform variants, as it self-measures a bit.

Overall it’s to help our support teams to help diagnose more awkward issues.

Best

Thank you very much @Stevesky
We should all keep our hands off, but it was so tempting

What bothers me much more is my adaptation period with the different sound signature of the new firmware. Will do all I can to love it fully again

@Stevesky
Sorry - I looked again :grimacing: as the app gets unresponsive quite often. See other thread. Underruns went to 3.
It went to 3 after one song and is increasing (now 5 in song 2) - but app is responsive this time - so no connection it seems

Have the reason  at last I am a scientist:
Every time I get it paused (remote or app) I get one underrun count!
