Watching the US HoR yesterday

The HoR was electing the Speaker of the House.

I was interested that each Representative was called out by name to vote. (Kudos to the Clerk of the HoR who had to read out all 435 (I think) names! And who was sufficiently well versed to know from which side of the House the answer was expected, so she was looking in that direction). The vote took a long time - I was called for dinner at about 25 minutes - and the Clerk has got up to “R”!

My question is, does every vote in the HoR work in the same way? Or was this a “special”.

Generally done electronically. I recall watching roll call after roll call in votes for Speaker of the House, so I assume special rules apply.

That’s what I wondered. Some years ago, I watched an impeachment vote in the Senate (Pres. Clinton?). And that had a similar roll call vote.
For those proceedings a (?) senior judge was presiding, and as they went on for so long, he was awarded an honourary Membership of the Senate ( or something like that).

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presides over an impeachment trial. To be clear, the President s impeached by the House and then tried by the Senate.

So would it have been the CJ that I was watching in the Senate vote?

yes
