Really enjoyed your recent coverage of the Bristol show, Jonathan!
Thatās great to hear Taboo! I am never sure how many people read my stuff but I have some interesting pieces coming up including the Nait50 for The Ear and the SME Model 35 and a history of the Townshend Rock for Soundstage. The hardest part is fitting it all in around the day job!
Jon
your opinion, and only yours
it needed saying - thanks for raising it - max has certainly gone down in my eyes
Re. consā¦
Listening to the regulars, yes, Dire Straits and the bland Diana Krall, and the almost non-stop blā¦y JAZZ
After a couple of hours, it sends you blā¦y barmy !!
Classical music is practically non existant even if it is an excellent genre for showing the virtues of Hi-Fi equipment.
All depends on what you want from the show as they are certainly not all the same.
I guess most just go for a day out and then just to look and hear other kit.
Most have no intentions of buying anything itās just really a day out.
As for sound quality in rooms, well, this can be very varied i have found. From the best i have ever heard to really bad, and everything in between.
I have often sat in a room and just thought, how can they think this sounds good.
But having done a hifi show myself with my kit, i kind of get the problems.
From the kit you use, the time you have for set up, the huge variety of music people like to hear and also hate, to not having a clue how the room you will get will be like.
But most professional rooms wonāt play anything thatās asked to be played, because they wonāt know the track probably and how it might sound. Hearing the same tracks in rooms as you go round can be useful, to identify differences, but at the same time boring.
Itās certainly nice to get a track that you know very well played on a different system, so you get to hear differences. This then gives you that personal touch just for a few minutes, and hopefully, you enjoy it.
This is what i did at the show i did. It went down really well. It didnāt empty the room, and we played everything that was asked for. Plus, we did this for about 90% of the day.
From feedback from the day it went very well and maybe more hifi shows should do the same?
Cheers dunc
Iād have said much more like āwhat are the pros and cons of going to the Chelsea Flower Show.ā As a keen gardener and frequent garden centre visitor, Iāve only been to one horticultural show and that put me off for life.

Thanks, Jonathan. Iāll watch for your upcoming reviews. Cheers!
You have aptly reminded us of the āotherā hifi show! The Maverick show is the only one I have any real interest in attending, and I suspect it is one in respect of which most of the pros and cons listed here donāt apply!
You canāt possibly know, but ok.
Next May, we are off to the Vienna High End, in its new home. Iāve never been to a hifi show, so Iām starting with one in a beautiful city. We could have a Forum gathering.
I will almost certainly be using Vienna as an excuse to attend.
I like visiting Vienna and the hifi show is a bonus.
A week of tranquility, coffee and museums. Throw in some music andā¦
Vienna is a wonderful city. I highly recommend the Vienna Pass which gives access to many attractions and public transport - excellent value.
Yes it,s a very nice and charming city was 2 times there here me in front of Vienna opera don,t forget to eat Wiener schnitzel the original with veal not wiener art schnitzel that could be also pork or chicken
The infamous Wiener schnitzel Yumi best with side patato salad and so called Preiselbeeren on top like a berry jam of course you could try to make at home out Iām to lazy to Klop the veal with the meat
hammer and nerve naibours lol
I am surprised. I attended a several Hifi shows in Osaka and I thought that the whilst the room was packed the demo was well controlled. My fave rooms was always 47Labs where all they talk about is the music and I come away with some interesting cool music.
Did you attend an opera there?
Still hoping to attend the opera there! I went to Musikverein but not the State Opera.
I totally agree with all cons listed above. The shows for me is mostly for social thing. I meet up with my other audio buddies or manufactures I know personally.
Whoās going to the Munich this year?
