What are you driving and why would we be interested?

You’ve got to seriously spread your legs for that!

Not strictly on topic but…

“Princess Diana’s Ford Escort sells for £650K at auction”

The lady certainly had taste. These were a proper performance hot-hatch back in the day.

Anybody on here buy it? :grinning:
Anybody got one?

The only Mk1 RS Turbo in black. I always thought the Mk1 looked a bit more special than the Mk2 version.

Agreed. There was also an RS1600i that I loved. My brother had the Mk2 Turbo, fully loaded. Quite a machine and he got it for an amazing price at the time.

The MK1 was homologated for Motorsport so is quite different from the MK2 which was more of an XR3i Turbo

Yes. Not as raw as the Mk1. 130BHP felt fast in those days :grinning:

Especially with much less weight. My Sapphire Cossie is around 1250kg :astonished:

I had a S1 turbo back in the day, C425 CPU with custom pack. Loved that car and spent money on suspension etc. was a big upgrade from Mk1 XR2 before it. Sadly the RS got nicked off my drive and I had it insured as bog standard so lost a load of money on it. Too this day I don’t know how they got it as I slept on ground floor and could pretty much open window next to bed and touch where it was parked …

Reminds me of Vecta immobilisers. About the only way you could get any fast Ford insured at the time was with one of these fitted :flushed:

Sorry to hear this, you must have been gutted, and probably still are.

I had Peugeot 309 GTI which was subject to 3 theft attempts, the last of which was outside on my drive and it was quick. I heard a bang ( I’d guess the screwdriver through the door skin to open the lock) and by the time I’d got to that window of the house, less than a minute and likely less than 30 secs, they were off. The Police were at my house within 2 minutes of my call, but the thieves had given them the slip. It was photographed doing about 120 mph through Nuneham Courtney and the car was recovered at Blackbird Leys in Oxford with the LH rear wheel and suspension arm somewhat further down the same road. I’d also used a lock between the handbrake and gearstick. The worst news however was that the insurance company called to tell me not to worry - it was repairable. They agreed with my perspective though that after 3 hits including the theft, it would be better off in a different post code. I didn’t love that car, but for years afterwards I woke up at the slightest sound from outside.

If it was an Autolock then it wasn’t effective, in a lot of cases it acted as an “assist” it should never have been sold as a security device.

I forget what it was, but it definitely wasn’t effective!

Not mine but just had a great trip on B and C roads in a Morgan around Gloucester (NSW). Wonderful way to spend a beautiful sunny Sunday morning, now if you don’t mind I need to ring my chiropractor.

The ride Pete, or just getting in and out?

It’s a mates car I was unfortunately just a passenger. I can tell you getting in is easy getting out not so much, there’s a definite art to it.

A colleague said “bald middle aged men drive convertibles”, couldn’t disappoint him, so purchased one of these. It’s currently a little poorly and receiving MB specialist attention. It’s then being sold.

@BruceW have you picked up you EV6 yet, saw my first in road yesterday it wasn’t a colour I’d choose (red) but it did look pretty good.
