What are you listening to in 2020 and WHY might anyone be interested?

Like you @VinoVeritas, I was not familiar with either the Who or the Petra Haden albums. It’s easy to admire the Petra Haden work with all its overdubs and vocal control without necessarily enjoying it too much! I think if the Who album had been an old friend it would be a lot easier to enjoy both.

Sandy Denny - Sandy

Mostly because I was listening to some Judy Collins last night and Roon had started playing a track from this before I decided to call it a night (after about 22 hours of being glued to various media)

Well I enjoyed The Straws enough to merit another play and an exploration of their other works.

@ampwat. Following your comment I did a track by track back to back comparison
To my ears The Who sounds very much of their time.
Petra Haden great technique and soundscape
Would I put my hand in my wallet and buy either of them probably not.

Who knows where time goes !!!

Your comments hit the nail on the head.

Incidentally The Strawbs ‘Brave New World’ also has a huge personal resonance -
‘There’s blood in the dust where the city’s heart beats,
The children play games that they take from the streets’
I was a 17year old schoolboy travelling daily into the centre of Belfast when the album was released. At the height of the Civil Unrest/Terrorism with multiple bombings, shootings, fires and deaths, the album had a certain cult following amongst friends feeling that Dave Cousins was writing about our city.

Even then I remember our feeling was that the previous album ‘From the Witchwood’ was probably musically better, perhaps because of Rick Wakeman’s remarkable keyboards.

I’ve not listened to either in years. Some memories are not always welcome.

Why? I felt like being screamed at by angsty young men.

When I moved to the U.S. in 1992, I needed emergency music before my system was shipped over. Enter a boombox, Citizen Steely Dan and The Clash On Broadway.

And how about that T-shirt? I think it’s the coolest one in Dandom!

Corey Harris & Henry Butler - Vu-Du Menz
Superb blues from guitarist/vocalist Corey Harris and pianist/vocalist Henry Butler. The playing is phenomenal with emotional vocals from the pair.
