Only just surfaced from my bed, thanks everyone for the kind sentiments, not that Im hoovering for sympathy of course
Sorry to hear @krautnaimie@Wren also got it bad, were in solidarity comrades.
Spent the morning enjoying these two fine movies which took ages due to pressing pause regularly to cough my guts up like something from the Exorcist and fart violently rather bizarrely, much to Mrs Dreads horror!
“Fictionalised” acount of a true meeting in 1964 at a motel of Cassius Clay, Sam Cooke, Jim Brown and Malcolm X.
The musical interest here being Malcolm X’s berating of Sam Cooke for playing syrupy music for a white audience, earlier we see Sam being rudely blanked by a hostile audience at the Copa. Malcolm plays Sam Bob Dylans Blowin In The Wind which inspires him to write A Change Gonna Come, not sure how true that part is but its brilliantly played…
The directors cut, simply stunning, powerful, edgy, revolutionary and groundbreaking.
The media and public outrage had me thinking of parralels with, and a kind of hip hop Sex Pistols/Malcolm McLaren, except NWA/Jerry Heller werent Anarchist poseurs but the real revolutionary deal. No doubt some artistic licence involved and perhaps some of the more negative aspects glossed over. First time watching this and I found it inspiring, uplifting and moving.
Hey good ole Jonny, still doing the biz
See they’ve now retired old dinosaur Steve Wright, caught a snip of him on the news describing himself in all seriousness as subversive, hes avin a laugh!
He used to be mildly amusing years back when he did the comedy characters (trying to be a pale imitation of Kenny Everett) but he became increasingly egotistical and narcissistic, his shows (“the big show folks”) were all about him, he irritated me immensely especially starting his “big show” reading carefully selected messages from listeners saying how good he and his show is. And interviewing guests with a thats enough about you now back to me approach.
Im sure he’ll have a comfortable retirement or find a slot on a regional station somewhere
Matthew Halsall (Trumpet), Gavin Barras (Bass), Nat Birchall (Tenor Saxophone on tracks 1, 2, 3), Lisa Mallett (Flute on track 6), Rachael Gladwin (Harp on tracks 1, 2, 3, 6), Adam Fairhall (Piano on tracks 1, 2, 3), Taz Modi (Piano on tracks 6, 7), Gaz Hughes (Drums on tracks 1, 2, 3), Luke Flowers (Drums on tracks 6, 7), Holly Simpson (Violin on tracks 4, 5), Davinder Singh (Violin on tracks 4, 5) and Adrianne Wininsky (Cello on tracks 4, 5).
Streaming on Qobuz (88.2/24)…kicking off this cool and overcast Sunday morning with Matthew and a his very talented group of musicians and they are sounding sublime! Love this album, a perfect way to start a day … Life is sweet!
Nice movies, @anon44538201 I tried to survive with some Sgt.Pepper 2LP and Walter Mitty.
It seems like I could taste and smell again, so I had the most delicious Bratwurst for ages
Great choices, love Walter Mitty the original Danny Kaye and the Ben Stiller remake.
If you like that are you familiar with the 60’s British film Billy Liar with Tom Courtney adapted from Keith Waterhouse book, very funny!
I hadn’t eaten anything since Wednesday, couldnt swallow, just fluids. Yesterday that eased and I was able to enjoy a little Jalfrezi and Bombay Potato which was heaven.
Actually dont know why I didnt think of it earlier, but that probably acounts for the violent farting triggered by coughing I mentioned. At least we can still laugh! Keep your spirit up!
