This is a hugely enjoyable album from three outstanding musicians. Drummer Carl Allen calls on double bassist Christian McBride and saxophonist Chris Potter to help him make an album that he would most like to hear as a listener.
Bill Connors (Composer, Guitar), Gary Peacock (Bass), Jack DeJohnette (Drums) and Jan Garbarek ( (Soprano Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone).
Streaming on Qobuz (44.1/16)… returning home after coffee with friends and taking Bill along with his talented members of his quartet and they are sounding sublime! It has been awhile since this album has been out for a spin… Life is Sweet and so is the Music!
One of the first albums I ever bought - this, Led Zep 3, and, I think, Mud Slide Slim on the same day. Haven’t heard it in years, will add to the queue. Thanks for the nudge.
Adrianne Lenker (12 String Acoustic Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Piano, Voicals), Josefin Runsteen (Percussion, Violin, Voicals), Mat Davidson (Acoustic Guitar, Piano, Violin, Voicals), Nick Hakim (Piano, Voices), Noah Lenker (Percussion) and Phil Weinrobe (Banjo, Piano).
Streaming on Qobuz (96/24)… continuing on this afternoon with the first time spin of Adrianne’s ‘Bright Future’ album released on March 21, 2024. Enjoying the opening track ‘Real House’ and looking forward to the rest of the album!
Back in the late 80’s John Bamford used to have a piece in Hi Fi News on what were to me obscure artists like Kevin Ayers, Roy Harper and Tim Buckley.
He would give you the background on the artist and run through their discography. Now in those days you couldn’t hear or get most of the stuff he was talking about so you had to trust his judgment and comments.
At this time Virgin had a few Tim Buckley albums on import for about £8 which in those days was a small fortune.
Luckily I picked up this album late in my Tim Buckley mission - the cover doesn’t reflect the music on the album - it’s a journey into madness and brilliance.
Marilyn Mazur (Percussion, Balaphone, Kalimba), Lotte Anker (Saxophone), Josefine Cronholm (Vocals, Percussion), Sissel Vera Pettersen Saxophone, Vocals), Hildegunn Øiseth (Trumpet, Goat Horn) , Lis Wessberg (Trombone), Makiko Hirabayashi (Keyboards), Ellen Andrea Wang (Bass), Anna Lund (Drums), Lisbeth Diers (Percussion).
Note on album: Everyone additionally sings and plays percussion.
Streaming on Qobuz (96/24)… continuing on this afternoon with Marilyn’s Shamania album which I first listened to back in 2020 and then another listen eight days ago and thoroughly enjoyed it and decided to take it out for another spin… and Marilyn and the talented group of musicians working with her are sounding sublime!
Rod Stewart at the BBC, Vols 1 & 2 on the telly. Maybe I’m Amazed is one of those ‘better than the original’ covers. Sorry Paul but the Faces took it to another level. What a band the Small//Faces were.
