Earlier, Rethink on BBC R4 FM with Prof Ben Ansell. This week’s subject: Authenticity

Among the subjects covered, given ‘AI slop’ with everything apparently available to avid consumers at a few clicks, will we crave analogue experiences such as standing in in a crowded theatre bar trying to get served in the interval?

Later, Finlay Christie is Younger Than You, also on BBC R4. We looked at each other and said, ‘It’s been a long time since the 6.30 was this good.’ He’s got really nice timing with his delivery.

Easily findable on Sounds for UK residents.

This is a thrill-some choreographed jaunt through various musical styles with emotive lyrics and a contemporary reinterpretation of the Pre-Raphaelites. Acoustic details rival the photographic precision of their painting forbears, with capricious motifs to delight, excite and surprise. Just once or twice I thought the BMRs were delaminating!

I just adore this work. Outside of Sibelius, one of my desert island classical must-haves:

Bartók
Concerto For Orchestra
RCA Living Stereo/ Classic Records
1994

Mastered by Bernie Grundman. It’s heartstoppingly gorgeous.
The silver label is from Impulse Loudspeakers London (“the finest recordings in strictly limited editions”) about whom I know absolutely nothing.
I should look em up.
