Gorillaz latest, The Mountain. Had to listen to it a few times but really glad I persisted with it, it’s a belter.

Very nice music (Debussy and Poulenc cello sonatas and other cello/piano work), very well played. Poulenc is growing on me as a composer (until recently I mostly knew his violin/piano sonata).
Blood, Sweat & Tears
Blood, Sweat & Tears (Expanded Edition)
Columbia, 1968
(Qobuz 24/176)
Brass rock at its most accessible. It stands up to the 24/176 re-master, too.
Janis Ian - God and the FBI
Released in 2000 on the classic Windham Hill label.
It’s something of a return to form with a Suzanne Vega vibe.
A great one no doubt. So much pathos in it. The previous album is excellent too!
Blicher Hemmer Gadd - Moments like these
I’ve heard the trio playing live recently, such a great experience. This album is also very well recordered IMO.
In case you are curious, here’s the concert:
Beethoven
String quartets Nos. 15 & 16
Quatuor Talich
(2012 harmonia mundi remasterings of the 1977 Calliope recordings, I think?)
Disc 7 of the complete string quartets. I bought this set as a less expensive fallback to the set I was after. It has turned out to be terrific in its own right. The Talichs come across as deeply engaged with the music, not just the notes.
Gogo Penguin - Necessary Fictions
To my surprise, my partner has suggested we go and see them in Norwich in, I think, May.
Anyway, this album is really growing on me. Wasn’t sure after their earlier stuff had been so good.
I have loved Beethoven’s Bagatelles since I heard the Gould LP. This is a very fine version of these precious miniatures by Paul Lewis. Well worth a listen.
