When I started listening to classical music, I used to pay a lot of attention to what album reviewers said - I knew nothing, and I felt I needed someone knowledgeable to tell me what to buy or not.
Until I realized that the reviewers never agreed on anything, and that the only important thing was whether I liked the album or not.
This work by Anne Sofie von Otter was both criticized as “one of the most abominable displays of bad taste I have ever heard” [Musicweb International] and as “she navigates melodic dead ends with a virtuosity that commands respect. A sheer delight!” [La Presse, Montréal]. I personally agree with the latter.
Ms. von Otter is backed by extraordinary musicians and the sound quality is impeccable.

Bobbie Gentry | Ode to Billy Joe | Qobuz 44.1kHz 16-bit
Shame on me, I only knew Patricia Barber’s version of Ode to Billie Joe. Thanks to @Cmax’s recommendation a few days ago, I’ve now heard the original. Much better, in my opinion.
A quick look at Wikipedia says that Bobbie Gentry only sang the title song herself because it was cheaper than hiring someone else to sing it, and that the album pushed Sgt. Pepper’s out of the no. 1 spot of the Billboard 200. No small feat indeed.

Being a big Dylan fan I am sure I must have come across this in the past but only the other day I read that those guys with Dylan are not the musicians on the album.
Oh yes there is the old one that there are pictures of The Beatles in the trees.

Yes there was the old joke that if you you turned the cover upside down you could see the faces of the Beatles in the tree and if you rotated the cover to one side the vinyl album fell out.
