Jerusalem artichoke and leek risotto topped with artichokes and mushrooms roasted with walnuts and sage. Artichokes from my allotment

Unfortunately I have mental scarring from Jerusalem artichokes.
As a teenager my dad grew them. They served two purposes, nutrition and a screen as they grew quite tall.
Dad was quite fickle and liked things to be done methodically and thoroughly.
One Saturday he told me and my brothers to go and dig up the artichokes for dinner. So off we went and dug up every single one.
Knowing he would come out and check our work we were meticulous in making sure every single tuber was up. We filled a wheel barrow and several buckets.
Dad was absolutely furious when we showed him :joy:
He made us eat a few of them every single dinner time until they were gone. From memory it was about two weeks. Mum came to the rescue and passed tissues to us under the table so we could discretely dispose of the ghastly artichokes.
I’ve tried them several times since, roasted, puree’d, boiled. I just can’t get on with them.
I’m sure your risotto was delicious though :yum:

They’re not to everyone’s taste and can see why you can’t abide them now. This morning I’m reminded of why we call them Jerusalem fartichokes

That’s the reason Mrs B banned me from growing them.:tornado:

I love the taste but can’t eat them for that reason.

Bought some sausages the other day from Villagers in Beckenham, froze all of the others. This one was called Caribarbados, pork, brandy and chilli etc, crazy good and coarse cut meat.

I think that I may pay for it tomorrow, it was rather hot, but good.

Had a cheeky Korean solo lunch during the week. And it was delicious.

Tonight it was Korean chicken wings, buffalo wings, pak choi and sweet potato fries

Lots of tissues needed
