Basically, I’ve spent the day in the kitchen. After this morning’s wild garlic pesto session, this afternoon I’ve made a burek (filo pie) filled with roasted leeks and banana shallots. Roasted veg then mixed with feta, blanched spinach, garlic, dill, basil, chilli flakes, cumin seeds, nigella seeds. Topped with a syrup made from lemon juice, agave syrup and pomegranate molasses. Served with a tomato and red onion salad.
Ah ha. You’re the one to blame. I couldn’t find a banana shallot for love or money in East Dulwich yesterday. You had already hoovered them up!
Nah - bought mine in Sydenham at Fresh’n’Fruity!
You’ve got a fancier jar than me!
Your’s looks suspiciously like one of those raspberry jam ‘keepsake’ jars in the news last week.
Spot on! It’s an empty Meghan Sussex ‘As Ever’ Raspberry Spread jar
Continuing to work on my fish prep skills, today…‘opening the jar’..
Tuna and Chickpea chopped salad.
We’re in Brixham and the choice of fresh fish to buy is very disappointing.
Poor man’s lobster tonight.
Preparing monkfish, pak choi and new potatoes
Thanks for reminding me I have some pa choi to use!
BBQ veg, salad, giant asparagus with grated Parmigiano Reggiano/olive oil, new pots and medium rare Côte de Boeuf on the menu tonight. Yum (I hope).
My phone had conked out by the time the food was done, but the Côte de Boeuf was fantastic on the BBQ - 20-25 minutes each side - not cheap but considerably cheaper than steaks in a pub or restaurant at around £10/head.
Interesting giant asparagus which everyone really enjoyed (before the PR cheese was added - that might put @Svetty off his tea):
Didn’t get back from the hospital till a bit late, and didn’t know what to do. I’m too much of a cheapskate to order takeaway, so I see what I can find. Defrosted a Pork Caribbean sauasge full of chilli and made a wrap, with alll of the salad. It was hot and very satisfying.
Looks great. I love avocado….
Looks lovely Pete.
That lamb looks fantastic.
Hell no!
I’m salivating in anticipation of my invite to the repeat…
I’ve just given up on most 8-10mm thick supermarket steak and prefer to spend more on a couple of thick steaks (M&S, Sainsburys mostly) or the Waitrose Côte de Boeuf pictured. Thinner steak is fine if you like it fairly well done but so much harder to enjoy if you enjoy it rarer on the inside.
