Picked up today at The Tank Museum for a bit of light reading. At half price thanks to the recent ‘Tiger Day’ at the museum.
Bed time listening on Audible. Half an hour episode and I am drifting.
A genteel world compared with the daytime fodder of murder, mayhem and double dealing spies.
Interest piqued.Library reservation placed.
Thank you.
Saw a stage adaptation of this in London in August. Now reading the novel by this Nobel Prize winner. The memoir of a generation of women. Imagine a blending of Proust (but without endless sentences), Simone de Beauvoir, and Billy (We Didn’t Start the Fire) Joel.
I just wish I was familiar with more than 10% of the French cultural references.
I’m reading it at the moment as well. May finish it today.
A must have book for me.
I won’t go on about how good a read it is other than say if you have an interest in Arnhem or in WW2 in general, yes its very informative and yes its also ‘a good read’.
Its all about a specific day during the battle of Arnhem, Tuesday 19th September 1944.
The day that became known as Black Tuesday.
Its especially poignant for me as my father, a sergeant with the 10th Batt, died that day.
This was recommended to me.
