What determines caps deterioration?

That depends. I have electrical equipment that contain sikorel capacitors that have a shelf life of 10 years.

This one hasn’t been used for 8 years, but I’d be quite happy to put it back into service.

The data sheet suggests sikorel can last up to 500,000 hours at 60c. That’s 57 years continually powered up. So 25 years isn’t that long, especially if not powered all the time. :grin:

Capacitors and batteries perform a similar function one in short bursts the other over a longer period. Is anybody actually surprised that caps deteriorated whether used or not. We all have mobiles phones don’t we?

Nah. Just more than most UK manufacturers. Most Japanese brands like Luxman and Accuphase recommend a 10 year trip to the mothership. Even entry level brands like Denon and Yamaha post recapping costs on their websites.
