What does a Lavender IC look like?

I have been searching for a Lavender IC as it’s not produce anymore, but not sure how it looks like compare to a grey IC? Couldn’t find any proper image here or Internet anyway, and don’t wanna risk buying another wrong one.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Here’s one. Most Naim dealers sell them. You can pick them up new for around £119.

In addition to Stephen’s post above, good info here on identifying cables

Hi @Stephen_Tate and @james_n , much appreciated the help! It looks like grey IC (which as you said available at dealers) to me, which I owned one. IIRC the lavenders had stopped producing since early 2000s? And with a slight lavender colour. If you got both on hands, would you mind comparing the two in photo? Thanks again!

Julius, the difference is very slight and it’s easy for a digital photo to not show it so clearly. The main difference in I/cs is that the earlier one is a little bit “greyer” in colour and very slightly thinner than the later one. Most of mine are later, but I do have an earlier one that came with my NAT03. Unfortunately, in a photo they look pretty much the same, but when I have time I might try to get a comparison photo up on the FAQ thread.

Ok, no problem. I’ve managed to go through my spares box and have stumbled upon the original, slightly thinner & rather grey looking interconnect lead from 1996. This cable is on the left hand side of pic. The current grey/lavender interconnect lead on the right hand side of pic is what came with my NDX 2, and can (AFAIK) still be currently purchased from Naim dealers.

So, unlike my expectation reading of it so often, it is not lavender colour at all, but grey with a slight purplish tinge.

These are lavender cables, but not Naim!

Out of curiosity, if Lavender is discontinued, what are they supplying now with the 333? Or ND5XS2 for that matter?

Hi Richard, thanks a lot for clarifying the differences! Yes if could share the visual difference under good lighting later, it would really help to hunt down the right IC! Thank you much appreciated

Hi Stephen, thanks a lot for the photo! It really helps. (as a designer I could really see the difference) Do you mean what we could get from dealers today are still counted as Lavender? (mainly sound-wise)

Cheers Martin – my bad! great to learn it
Indeed I have checked a bit before I posted (no native speaker here and honestly I was confused), I didn’t check out the 2nd link tho (which saying it’s a common grammatical mistake of non native! haha)

Well; you may well be correct in that Naim have stopped making the so called ‘lavender/grey’ stock supplied interconnect cable. I’ve just visited my local Audio t website and it’s nowhere to be seen. However, some dealerships still have them for sale, albeit at a discounted price. HiFix for examlple.

The lavender grey is current, even if it looks mostly grey.

The real disappointment, is here in North America for power cables. Naim used to supply a 14 awg power cable. Now it is a flimsy 18 awg :frowning:

That’s discussed on another open thread. The 14AWG WellShin is discontinued and existing stocks go for over $100. You’re better off getting an entry level after market one in your country. I expect the main reason Power line Lites can still be easily supplies in the UK is they can source any variant with 14AWG regardless of plug because they are lopping it off to put their own on anyway.

It doesn’t really equate to Lavender supply at all because if you get a Naim source, they still provide the only interconnect you’ll ever need in the box (going better being optional but in no way required).

Worth noting, the older “grey” was the same cable stock used by Chord Chrysalis. So if you find Chord Chrysalis second hand, it’s effectively an old “grey”. I still use the Chrysalis on my tape loop to my digital recorder. The only difference AFAIK between “grey” and Chrysalis was the latter was RCA at one end.

Except I thought Naim’s cables in Britain were/are using UK/EU standard cables, 1.5mm2 or 0.75mm2, not 14AWG which is 2.08mm2 or 18AWG which is 0.81mm2?

Could be. Been 25+ years since I’ve seen a UK Naim supplied mains lead. If so, then they are now the same as the US in thickness.

Here is mine (hard to tell honestly)
