This film was made in 2013 but took a while to make its way to DVD then only on import. I picked up an early copy but it had no subtitles for the Korean actors.
Recently picked up the blu-ray with the subtitles.
John Hurt, Ed Harris and a transformed Tilda Swindon.
Mixed bag. It is quite well done with good linearly increasing tension. There’s an insane car crash fight scene.
But…
It is basically Die Hard 2 made for a less macho generation Z audience. In other words, Xmas eve at an airport with terrorists. It’s probably better done than Die Hard 2 but isn’t as good because it lacks John McClane.
Load of American twaddle about an alcoholic who looses his job and wife and decides to live on his lawn as he sells his worldly possessions.
Addiction seems to be not a real problem for a man who is working through his AA steps. Cadging a tin of beer one night, with the sweats, at a supermarket to waking up next morning friendly, bright and chipper. That’s not how it works.
A brooding, almost religious tale of violent retribution.
Thankfully this not a world I am familiar with so I couldn’t comment on the theatrical honesty.
But as a dark, dark soul Brody is intense.
First one lotsa sun.On Clean it never shows its face.
I’ll give Clean a go. Seems worth a punt. Mrs. FZ loves a violent revenge flick. So much so I remember before we were married, she walked into a video rental (when they existed) and asked, “could you please point me to the revenge section?” I should have seen the warning signs.
I caught Clean the other night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Simple, efficient, tight story telling wih no fat.
One thing I did struggle with though, when Brody comes out of hospital and the story prceeds without a glitch, I kept thinking, “how on earth did he afford that? Do binmen have amazing insurance? Did he just rack up $250k in new debt?”
