A truly superb film that hasn’t aged a day.

Clean had a murky past that wasn’t revealed. He did have large stash a cash for the young woman before he went on the rampage.

Master & Commander

A salty dog story, if ever there was one.

Le meilleur reste a venir.

After a cancer diagnosis one best friend cannot tell the other he has not long to live and so begins a troubled story of lies and half truths.

It is a comedy but gently drifts into a more difficult tale of how we and those around us face up to that dreadful prognosis.

The French are masters at this type of wordy/intellectual film based around the professional classes.

On Prime.

Vengeance

Not bad at all. Perhaps it misses the mark a bit by trying to straddle comedy with something a lot more serious. It was very well done and there was enough quirky moments of humorous truth to go around without forced comedic gags added. Perhaps taking those out would have been the difference between a great movie and merely pretty good movie. Could have done with a less formulaic ending but it worked.

It’s definitely worth a watch.

The red virgin.
Mother produces ( that’s how it is) child that she can mould into a fully independent Spanish woman just as the monarchy is falling.
Highly intellectual, the child tries to be part of the revolution but mother wants her to exist on a more ethereal plain.
Child falls in love with a socialist lad and it all starts to unwind.
Difficult to describe but wonderfully acted, filmed and warmly directed.
The English voice overs didn’t get inthe way.
On Prime.

A fabulous film, beautifully filmed and a joy to watch. It’s about the life of a Tokyo toilet cleaner, and encounters that cause him to reflect on the beauty of life. It’s in Japanese with subtitles and has a brilliant soundtrack. Highly recommended.

“Blink twice”. I watched this garbage of a movie yesterday.
It is a Hollywood propaganda movie. The basic story is that men are all pigs with no conscience, that will do anything to women to satisfy their needs.
A victim rises up to become a “girl boss” and makes them pay.
The woman who made this movie obviously hates men. I wish I could have that 105 minutes of my life back.

We’re working our way, slowly, through this rather excellent collection of the 15 Showa era Godzilla films (1954-75).

Directed by Stephen Daldry from a screenplay by David Hare.Photography by Roger Deakins.
So we are on solid ground.

A troubled and dreadful (as in full of) tale of human frailty and emotional inadequacy that reflects upon us all.
We start with the capture of a young man’s heart and end with the horrors of WW2.
Feel free to shed a tear along the way.
Roger Ebert. com or Philip French @ the Guardian will dissect in more detail after the film.

%%%%ing awful. I couldn’t get past the first 15 minutes before giving up. Truly dire. I mean, you know it won’t be winning awards but hope it will be fine to unwind after when your brain is tired. It’s not. Stay far away.

Well I gave it a go. A pretty basic nonsense thriller dressed up in a party frock.

There’s a lot of it about imo!

I actually felt embarrassed for the actors. Foxx has an Oscar behind him.

Pays the bills I suppose. But if aliens were wondering what to do with humanity and picked up this flack, they’d be like, “Use them for food. Humanity is worthless. Pass the mint sauce.”

Watched this with my bro on Apple. What an execrable piece of crp. It is a very bad film on so many levels. What storyline there is (and there isn’t much) is just a retread of the first film. Bizarre rabid monkeys imported from Resident Evil. The laugh out loud nonsense of sharks in the Coliseum ( if a gladiator in waterskis had jumped over one of them it would have been perfect). The complete absence of tension in the fight sequences. Standard issue giggling psychotic emperors. Paul Mescal - where to begin? His meandering accent and utter lack of credibility as some kind of warrior. Pedro Pascal completely miscast and with a voice as though he has a stick up his bottom.
The single thing of enjoyment is watching Denzil chewing up and spitting out every actor he shares a scene with. I don’t know if there is an equivalent word to ‘ensh
ttification’ to describe the career of a once great director but if there were then this film would be the epitome of that.
Was I not entertained

PS - and a Gooner, Matt Lucas, as the Master of Ceremonies

Ah good. That’s aligned with my thoughts about the trailer alone.
