I, Robot

It’s kind of rubbish. As a movie I can’t recommend it. But crazily prophetic in predicting, with slight exaggerations, the society we live in today. There’s an Elon Musk character before anyone other than Business Week readers had heard the name. The frustration when things aren’t controlled by Google Assistant-like voice control. Distrust of AI and self driving cars. Naysayers and accepted who both think the other side are morons. Naff but on the nose.

Terminator Salvation

Utterly panned but if we’re honest, it’s the best one other than T2. There are some funny cuts with inferred events though. I can’t help but think there’s a Director’s Cut lying on an editing room floor somewhere. It feels like there was a far more interesting story to be told but a studio exec stepped in and said “just cut all the actions sequences together. If that gives you more than 90 minutes, release it.” Cynical maybe, but that’s how it feels. Even so, I do like it quite a bit.

Very good.

The spy film genre covers a wide range of genres - comedy, action etc - but IMO this is the greatest spy film of all. Just shown again on BBC2 this evening. Absolutely faultless.

Comedy? I agree it’s a great spy flick. I’ve had it in the collection a while. But never picked up on comedy.

There’s a problem with spy flicks being so numerous and also preposterous so this one stands out as really good. I think it’s pacing is a bit off to be the best though.

Don’t be fooled by the IMDB rating; this is garbage! Even the trailer does not show the full premise of the film. 2/10.

I meant to say ‘the spy film genre’ so have edited post. This one is definitely not a comedy!

We watched this a couple of nights ago. Not an easy watch in places but totally gripping and overall really excellent. Saoirse Ronan gives a brilliant performance.

A couple of days prior to The Outrun we watched this. Clearly not in the same class, but very well done and very, very funny.

Watched some of it and gave up.

One of the best films ever. Enjoy.

Agreed. It’s a very good film, already recommended a couple of times on this thread - but another does no harm.

I watched “War of the worlds” from 2005 last weekend. It was better than I expected. It was directed by Steven Spielberg, and he is very good at creating tension in many of the scenes. It was a fun watch for what it is.

Something a little different on Netflix - a gentle Thai comedy that sniffle sniffle turns rather poignant.

Killers Of The Flower Moon. This film by Scorsese (with De Niro & Di Caprio) is an absolute tour de force. One of the best films of this century.
A must-see - 10/10

It was god but the sad thing is the best part of the book was the prep work for the assault. The film did not focus anything on that. Wasted opportunity. The book is so much better

I bought and watched the Criterion 4K version of “Ugetsu”.
It is a powerful movie about the ambitions of two men; and what those ambitions do to their families. The cinematography is really nice and the Criterion discs are well done.

I listened to it on LP not long ago, lying on the sofa. Very atmospheric.

Going lowbrow

Anchorman 2

It’s a true Apatow classic and better than the original. The number of side splitting scenes is great.

Chicken of the cave anyone?
