What DVD, Blu-ray or streamed film have you just watched?

Enjoyed this recently. Still pretty good I thought

Le Fil or An ordinary case.

Daniel Auteil is the French Maitre convinced of the innocence of Gregory Gadebois for the murder of his wife.

A very French, humanecourtroom drama that is slowly paced but saves the sting for the final act.

Well acted. Precise subs and on Prime.

I couldn’t bring Auteil’s acting wife’s name to mind but it is Sidsi Babett Knudsen from that wonderful Danish political drama Borgen

Comedy thriller. Recommended from another forum. Plenty of laughs and clever plotting. 9/10.

Might give it a spin. I still remember Horrible Bosses. Some real zingers.

“This is a shot of you driving away from the crime”

“I was drag racing.”

“In a Prius?”

“I don’t win very often.”

The critically acclaimed Blowout directed by Brian di Palma.

Our hero, John Travolta,a sound effects supplier for slasher movies, witnesses the murder of a presidential hopeful.

His world descends into a maze of lies and deceit as he tries to prove what others do not wish hear.

John Lithgow has a fine part portraying a serial killer. Creepy.

No smiles or lighthearted humour.

Very good print and soundtrack. Leaves Prime shortly.

There’s a superb Blu-Ray of Blow Out released by Arrow in the UK and Criterion in the US - very highly recommended.

We spent a couple of very enjoyable hours watching this last night.

Saw it at the cinema and really enjoyed it. They’ve dropped the pratfalls and it has a bit of wistfulness/sadness that really elevates it

Hemingway & Gellhorn

Great performances by Clive Owen as Ernest Hemmingway and Nicole Kidman as Martha Gellhorn.

With an interesting casting of Metallica’s Lars Ulrich as documentary film maker Joris Ivens.

Very silly but it passes my number one rule for films - it’s surprisingly very engaging. The characters are built up well and very likeable in their own ways. I loved it. Some very funny moments .

Available on Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Plex (for free with ads).

It’s Halloween season on Sky Cinema so no better way to start than with the Exorcist in UHD. I always liked the film but don’t remember it being this good..!!

I really enjoyed this, as modern horrors go it’s excellent and quite a unique storyline.

On blu-ray. A cut above the usual Halloween fare.

Watched this on Prime today.

A strangely wooden Paul Newman stars in Martin Ritt’s western Hombre.

The rest of the fine cast put in some solid performances. Based on an Elmore Leonard book which I am sure has fewer plot holes than the film script.

Decent print on Prime.

I love classic war films and this is a ww2 movie made very much the same way older war movies were made. Slower pacing, time to build characters, a great cast and some very convincing shooting scenes.

I really enjoyed it and so did my 87 year old Mum yesterday afternoon. Available to stream free too.

Having a charity shop clear out and hadn’t seen this film for several years.

The President has crash landed in Manhattan. The whole island is a prison.

Kurt Russell has to get him out. It abounds with stars…. Lee van Cleef,Donald Pleasance, Harry Dean Stanton,Ernest Borgnine. John Carpenter at the helm.

Best watched as a museum piece (although many might still enjoy the styling) now we know the technical wizardry that the film industry can conjure.

The US only has 20 mins to respond to an incoming nuclear strike (origin unknown) on Chicago. Film plays out three times from different perspectives (military, White House Ops Center and the President). You don’t see the actual strike but I guess that is not the point of the film. Interesting premise but it did feel like a film without an ending. 6/10.
