Frankie draws her family around her for one last time in Sintra but for what real reason remains a half mystery because of Sachs disjointed direction.
The most wonderful scene when Gleeson (who spends most of the film lumbering about inconsequentially) takes tiny Huppert into his massive arms one last time and you could believe in the existence of unconditional devotion.
A sadly missed opportunity. Woody Allen would have managed better.

I absolutely love the Carry On films and have no problem watching them. This film feels a bit too modern for what happened and I felt awkward at times while watching in a way I don’t normally

Well if you thought the Odyssey was too long for its subject matter.
Marty Supreme is two and a half hours story of a ping pong match.
Marty has ultimate belief in himself and will stop at nothing to achieve his life’s dream of being crowned the World’s finest table tennis player.
It rushes along at an amazing speed,comedy,disaster, in your face racism,sexual encounters with Paltrow in Central Park. It’s a fabulous joy ride of a film.
Bradshaw offers it 4 stars but I am not sure if the Daily Express reviewed it. Kermode struggles to embrace all of its spin off story arcs.
Timothee Chalamet is Marty Mauser. The Supremes his orange balls.

This Is Spinal Tap wasn’t quite as funny as I remembered it, but both very funny films and it was worthwhile making the second movie. I would say both 10/11.

Marvellous Toby Jones and Gemma Jones.
The story of Neil Baldwin.
I suppose Neil would be considered on the autistic spectrum( I hate that phrase) his mother allows him to go his own way in the hope of bringing a more organised aspect to his life.
If he gets in a bit of a muddle he can always call on special relationships with the Archbishop of Canterbury or Tony Benn plus many others to help out.
But as an avid supporter of Stoke City Football club Lou Macari gives him a job as kit boy.
The real life Neil is on hand to oversee the dramatisation of his life.
Toby does a wonderful job of inspiring awe,sympathy and pathos with a sense of bewildered fun.

Finally got around to watch Project Hail Mary as I was waiting the arrival of our new projector (sony 5100 4k laser). Absolutely loved the book, but as I loved the two Edward Ashton Mickey sci fi novels (Mickey 7 and anti matter blues, the first one being crowd funded as no publish company saw money in them) as well and was underwhelmed and disappointed with how they managed to destroy those (Pattinson fan though), I was cautious.
No need: apart from being too fast paced and laconic at times, the tediously long, uncomfortable and strange singing scene and Goslings thinking that smart scruffy teachers have to keep their eyeglasses in their mouths, the movie was marvelous and a very well managed effort from the book.
Weir’s “The Martian” was too much tech for me as a novel, but I absolutely love the movie, Project Hail Mary I enjoyed much more for both movie ánd novel.

I don’t enjoy films that need the crutch of a novel to exist.
Usually from a popular novel to which script writer and director feel the need for some obeisance.
It’s one or the other for me. I have shared your disappointment too often.

Not my usual type of film but I felt like a bit of cut and thrust and it is hard to find better than Ridley Scott as a a director of action movies.

I watched Hail Mary last night.
I have not read the book.
As ever Ryan Gosling puts in a professional performance but the film seemed a resurrection of every space will he/wont he drama I have ever seen.
And that grindingly awful score that kept building up to one pointless crescendo after another.
Sorry Amazon Prime not for me but I think most youngsters would find it an educational watch.

This based-on-a-novella-by-Stephen-King flick from Frank Darabont isn’t bad. Ostensibly it’s a monster movie (although the monsters are rather unconvincing, a bit yucky rather than truly horrific) but the most interesting aspects are the relationships between the protagonists trapped inside the supermarket. Toby Jones as the shop assistant and Marcia Gay Hardon as a religious maniac are both excellent but the fx are a bit sub-optimal and the ending feels rushed and unlikely. But the first hour or so is pretty gripping.

So we start of with Angie in the shower with a bar of soap and then we have razors a’slashing whist we try to discover who this cross dressing maniac really is.
It’s more in your face than Hitch and you suddenly realise how you are missing Bernard Hermann’s help but… not bad.
