I had to look that up as I didn’t know what it was. I’ve never read the lyrics and they are hugely powerful. Sadly there are a lot of people like that.

Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son
And where have you been, my darling young one
I’ve stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I’ve walked and I’ve crawled on six crooked highways
I’ve stepped in the middle of seven sad forests
I’ve been out in front of a dozen dead oceans
I’ve been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard
Dylan A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall

Get your motor runnin’
Head out on the highway
Looking for adventure
In whatever comes our way

Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air

Jarvis is just a superb lyricist. Do have a listen to the song - he sings it with such passion (and humour). It has often been viewed as another Britpop song but it is much, much more than that

"In the days of my youth, I was told what it means to be a man
And now I’ve reached that age, I’ve tried to do all those things the best I can".

Like shadows on the wall, you come and you go…

I’ve bought the album from eBay for £2.05 including postage. Only 20 years late but hey!

There are more ‘hidden’ meanings in the lyrics of Hotel California than any other that I know of.
Its all about drug addiction
Just those two opening lines … Dark Desert Highway is the dark rocky path to addiction.
Colitis is Hispanic & translates to slang for marijuana buds.

Colitas…surely?

Don’t recall Henley and Frey referring to digestive issues.

Early one morning, the sun was shining
I was laying in bed
Wondering if she’d changed it all
If her hair was still red

A great story-telling set-up line. You just have to know more.
