What to do with Naim Credo subs?

I came across an interesting find today so have a couple topics to post.

I found a Naim CD5, a Naim Nait series 5, and the subs from a set of Credo speakers at the local recycling shop for $5.

Unfortunately the base/tweeters were tossed as they “weren’t working” :sob:

Simply, what should I do with them/are they worth saving? I currently use Paradigm titan V3s, with a 8" velodyne sub.

Could I be adventurous and run them with my titans and what would be the best way to do that?

Thanks!

If you mean the bottom boxes from Credos, they are not subs, and cannot be used with anything else. It’s probably best to return them to the recycling centre. Still, you got a great deal on the CD5 and Nait 5, both of which are excellent.

They are the Bass/mid speaker that sits on the top. I have added a photo above

The CD5 is faulty currently but the Nait 5 seems to be working correctly which I’m excited about.

Those are the mid/bass boxes. The drivers, provided they are fully working and undamaged, have value as they were made by Naim and used in Credo, Allae, SBL, and SL2, albeit specially selected and matched for the last two. Your best bet would be to check they are fully working and if so sell them and put funds towards other speakers.

Thanks Richard, to test them could i plug them directly into an amp, or would they need to go through some kind of cross over like on the original sets?

Nait 5 is a gem. I’d get it serviced and use it for many years. I’ve given mine to my father, since I had already superfluous hifi devices.

The only problem is that it is not too powerful so pair them with easy loudspeakers.

They are the mid-bass drivers for Naim’s entry level Intro 2 loudspeakers and not the superior Credo. The Credo drive units were a more elaborate affair and sported aluminium phase-plugs, amongst other things…

I think you would be ok to hook them direct at low volume. You landed a bargain there, the speakers are going to be worth a couple of hundy.

Hmm interesting, they do say Credo on a sticker inside the speaker box. Do they use the same driver?

The Intro used a simplified driver. The Phase plug is the giveaway. Is the phase plug a two-piece aluminium one on these? If so, they are Credo drivers. If not, they are from Intros.
