What was the last bit of gear you bought in 2022?

  • Ethernet and USB
  • Speaker cables and Inter Connects
  • 3x Power Cables

I unpacked the Nordost Valhalla 2 cables, I needed to make room for the upcoming construction. The boxes will be stored in the basement.

I was impressed not by the quality of the cables but by the boxes. I’m pretty sure that the production of these boxes cost more than the cables themselves . Except for the speaker cables which are really impressive.

The construction of the cables is also of the highest quality. Not a surprise considering their eyewatering price tag.

Hi,

was looking at the cable as well but since I am not based in the UK I was wondering if it is worth the hassle to ship Europe. Do you have a rough idea how much shipping and customs to Euope is?

Thanks.

I think you should be fine.
The prices on the Witch Hat site are excl. VAT. You’ll have to pay the normal VAT amount in your country upon delivery or when picking them up at a depot. This depends on the carrier (at least it does here). WH didn’t charge any shipment costs so I don’t know which carrier they use.

I never had issues with packages from the UK.

For me it’s been shipped UPS free shipping then adding your local VAT and tax rate and another 30 EUR for administration by UPS.

Exactly, the VAT and the additional handling fees imposed since Brexit. They have offers at Easter and Halloween, if you catch those, the discount will generally offset the additional handling fees.

Thanks. That is a good suggestion. I will look at for the next Easter promotion.

Has anyone got a spare kennel - I think I’m going to be in the doghouse when my better half gets home!

Well she’s gone into Nottingham with her son it being Mother’s Day and all - and left me looking around the Bay when OOTB someone made mean offer of £100 off a v.tidy HiCap - so I countered as u do and ended up getting £175 off plus there is already a NAPSC on its way which was going to be hidden round the back - do you think she will notice?

And a quick question can I run a DAC-V1 > NAC 122X > FlatCap > NAP 100?

Is it replacing another box? Nearly all the Naim boxes being anonymous slabs is quite handy

Yes - but HiCap is half width and FlatCap full width

If your wife is as eagle-eyed as mine…She’ll notice!
However, 2 HiCaps at the side of the Fraim, hidden partially by an armchair, have gone unremarked.
So…

A NAPSC, nah, easy to tuck away!

My wife has a clear aesthetic eye, so it’s little things like record brushes by the side of the Linn that she really objects to…“spoils the look of the turntable”. She’s quite right of course!

Take a photo of the Flatcap, blow it up to full size, paste it to some card and stick it to the front of the Hicap. Voila!

I would suggest getting another hicap, and place it alongside the first one:this should make it as wide as a flatcap. Hope this helps

Should have gone for the Supercap

Similar thoughts have been expressed before with regard to the 72 versus the full width preamps

I think I’ve sussed it - she’s been moaning that we haven’t had a tumble dryer for a while so I’ve ordered one for delivery on Tuesday while she’s away at her mums - when she comes home on Thursday she’ll be so over the moon about it she won’t notice - job’s-a-good-in!
Wish me luck?
