What was the last bit of gear you bought in 2025?

I had 552DR/300Dr previously, but I was experiencing listening fatigue ever faster, to the point where I was avoiding listening to music at all.

This is most likely related to my Tinnitus.

Strangely enough listening to music with my Sony headphones WH-1000XM4 is not fatiguing, as long as I turned off the noice cancelation.

So I felt I needed a change in my setup and started visiting dealers, listening to different setups.

I home auditioned Leben CS-600 (so wonderful but lacked power for larger scale music), McIntosh MA 5300 AC (not engaging and build quality not to my liking) and some Lavardin amps (ISx Reference: nice but felt too much like a downgrade; ITx so beautiful; ITx-20 similar tone like ITx but then more from everything).

This is where I stopped auditioning more brands, as Lavardin gave me a not fatiguing sound and on top a tone that made me think „music just sounds so nice and beautiful“.

I decided not to audition ASR Emitter2, Vitus, Gryphon and the like, as these large amps are just too big and heavy, I don´t want this in my home.

After a few weeks my new Lavardin ITx-20 and the new cables have settled and I thought I´d share my experiences:

First thing I notice with Lavardin is the absence of any harshness, which is so relieving and allows me to listen to music again without fatigue - well at least Vinyl and Tuner, Digital is still a bit difficult for me.

Absence of harshness does not mean absence of heights or details though. They are still there, but presented in a calm, non-shouty way. Music is so fluid, liquid and alive - it’s a big joy!

Most astonishingly I have the feeling that the Lavardin has more PRaT than my 552DR/300DR, was not expecting this at all.

Hifi aspects like soundstage, layering, instrument separation etc. seem to be even improved vs. before.

Listening to large scale music (e.g. Talk Talk Time It’s Time) a bit louder also keeps all the hifi aspects, no smearing, no collapse of soundstage, everything clear and large - though admittedly 552DR/300DR had more sheer oomph in this case.

On an emotional level I had an interesting experience though: While 552DR/300DR gave me the illusion of having the band playing in my room, the Lavardin transports me into another time and place. Not sure how to better describe this, but yesterday evening listening to Nina Simone, Miles Davis and Art Blakey gave me this impression that I have not had before.

So to summarize I´m more than happy with this new hifi toy.

Glad that you’ve found something that’s suitable.

Out of interest, what is the black button? In the centre of the facia, as I can’t make it out.

DG…

Thanks for sharing :+1: I’ve realised I’m also more looking for a beautiful touching presentation more than uber detailed and in your face. You shall choose the music to play, not your hifi system.

And you just like me have chosen very musical speakers with the same goal in how to transmit music in a beautiful way to our ears  Would love to demo the Lavardin ITx-20 one day.

It´s the power button
Though I leave it on all the time, it´s a class AB amp and does not run hot

I forgot to ask.

I totally feel where you are coming from and can encourage you to give the ITx-20 a try.

On a side not: Inspired by your tube gear I just ordered an Abbas DAC 2.4 Signature. Curious to see what a tube dac will do in terms of fatigue (hopefully the lack of) and musical enjoyment.

Yes, the red fascia is an option

That’s terrific news, well done.

I’ve been on a similar journey recenty albeit from less lofty Naim pre/pwr and ended up with Michi for pretty much the same reasons.

I too have tinnitus which ‘interrupted’ my listening pleasure with the naim, for some reason with the Michi (and with 2nd place Primare to a lesser extent) this is not the case. Quite odd, but immensely gratifying.

Thanks for your comment, in fact I saw your post the other day and am glad to hear you also found an amp you can enjoy. What I can read online about the Michi sounds very attractive and it seem to have endless power reserves.

As I’m on probably my last ever Naim system, NC 222/300/250, just ordered two of these, presumably from the last production run. Whilst perhaps not the most sophisticated solution, and facing strong competition from the NAS options, they’re well integrated, owners appear to have found them reliable and the storage medium is user changeable…..

Update #1: Delivery now possibly slipped to April, beginning to look like a delayed Ryan Air flight :joy:. Still, there’s always a Plan B…..

Did you do the change yourself?

Hi, no I have ordered it this way with an SR pink fuse. That will complete a full loom of the pink fuses in my system, which I am looking forward to hearing.

Bought a new (to me) NDX2 this week. Had been looking at replacing the NAC282 with a NSC222 but in the end decided that I wanted an NDX2 and keep the NAC. Maybe more of a sideways step from Chord 2Qute with Raspberry Pi but I’m getting old and appreciate the display and closer system integration with the all Naim kit and I still have (just about) enough eyesight to appreciate the display.

A lovely ex demo NDX2 and a preloved XPS DR to partner the Supernait 3, CDi and HiCap DR. Now contemplating a used hiline……

And boy is the NDX2 and XPS a step up from the ND5XS2. Even my wife can hear the difference……
