Here, the automotive supply stores typically sell deionized water for batteries, not distilled. Though, you can typically pick up distilled at grocery stores/supermarkets. Obviously this many vary from country to country.

I use rain water, some iso propylene alcohol and a dash of washing liquid.

In the UK, de-ionised water is relatively easy to obtain - many DIY stores, automotive parts stores and supermarkets sell it. Distilled water, on the other hand, is much trickier to get your hands on.
I had to get it from a specialist company in the end. This from their website explains their production process:
āEvery drop of our Distilled Water is genuinely made by steam distillation, the gold standard technique to generate ultra-pure water and as far as we are aware, we are the only producer to include UV sterilisation in our process to ensure the final product is bacteria free. The secret to our incredibly high purity lies in our 6-step process:
Our feed water is filtered three times and forced through a reverse osmosis membrane at very high pressure to create a superior starting water, often below 10ppm to start with. This feed water is then boiled and the resultant steam is cooled, collected, filtered through activated carbon and finally ion-exchange resin (mixed bed) to sequester the last remaining ions. Our distilled water is then placed into brand new, clean, food-grade HDPE bottlesā
Itās probably overkill on my part, but given that vinyl is so valuable it seems sensible to use the purest water to clean it.

Oh, wow. I use distilled water for my Degritter II and for a twice daily nasal saline rinse with Budesonide. I get 6 gallons at a time from any local grocer for about $1.30/gallon. I use about a gallon each week for the nasal rinses.

demineralized water with my humminguru. With drops of lāart du son liquid.
No cracks, no pops, ultra quiet vinyls.

The fact that water is a bulky/heavy commodity to transport is clearly reflected in the shipping costs. Cost of 5l of distilled water is not very far from the cost of getting it to me.
I think you are wise to be cautious about dumping over 4k on a used PSU to power an old nDAC that went out of production eons ago without having the opportunity to listen to it first. Itās very easy to be tempted by the long-term rave reviews on the forum as to the elevation in performance a 555DR brings but at the end of the day, itās your 4k (which is a lot of money in my book).
Iāve had an nDAC (bought used for Ā£1400 ~18 years ago) to which I added a non-naim XPS PSU and I have been very happy with the gains it has brought.

Wow, that amount of DW costs less than $2 at any/all nearby grocers or pharmacies. I wonder why there is such a wide discrepancy between the EU/UK and the U.S.
At 23 euro, I would certainly find alternatives. One goes through a fair amount of DW with a ultrasonic cleaner. Even if you arenāt using the cleaner much, you still have to change the water at least every week or two to prevent contamination forming.
Be assured, i was buying mine for 1 euro per liter
But maybe that one is on higher quality, to respond to the original poster who wants the best distilled water ?
The distilled water arrived today. Itās Ā£7.95 for 5l. I had to order 10l (to meet minimum order of Ā£10). Shipping was Ā£6.90. Including VAT, invoice total was Ā£27.36 Delivery was next day. So, Ā£2.74 per litre.
Iām trying to avoid Amazon for a number of reasons (cf āEnshittificationā by Cory Doctorow for elaboration).
