VIII by John Illsley, bassist for Dire Straits.
Went to an ‘intimate’ gig, only @200 people, in my home town followed by a Q&A.
Amazing to hear his solo music mixed with Dire Straits classics.
Bought a CD there and got it signed!
I love Neil Ardley’s Kaleidoscope of Rainbows. I have a worn out vinyl and a CD version. I managed to snag the Jazz in Britain’s live double CD, before it sold out.
Looks like an interesting CD to hunt down.
Anything by Neil Ardley is worth picking up. These are BBC radio broadcasts - not previously known, at least to me.
I have a copy of that Festival Hall 2CD set as well. It didn’t last too long on Jazz In Britain’s site - and is more expansive than the studio LP release.
I have been on a spree lately. Along side some downloads, I bought the CD’s recently.
An interesting laid back disc.
A very classy set.
Enjoyable, for those days you want something to brighten your mood.
I have a remastered Darkness on the edge of town CD and it sounds great. Have you heard that one?
No, have early and later vinyl and later Japanese CD. And this one now. Still not played it.
That’s a great find
Just bought Aaron Parks: Little Big III
A very enjoyable album, but strangely, one which I found myself playing “spot the influence”.
Keith Jarret, Mark Knopfler, Bruce Hornsby, Brad Mehldau, and touches of Pat Metheny, all came to mind when playing this one.
Was in Sister Ray last week and picked up a few things the way you do, one of which was this.
Live recordings but without an audience.
Not heard it before, but excellent!
Saw Armatrading live a couple of years ago at the RAH. She was very good.
Used to watch this every week in the ‘80’s. OMG, just doesn’t time fly……
ATB, J - older but probably not any wiser.
These “silver” discs, often rule!
So I went to look a potential new car today.
It does not have a CD player!
Apparently, this is the norm these days……….
I was so disappointed that I slammed my latest acquisition into the CD player on my crappy old car for the drive home:
Feel your pain, to a large extent, and the record will show I am regularly keen to bang the drum for CD, but…
Although my 2017 VW has a CD player (just), I have found there is a certain pleasure in putting together a USB stick full of music - getting the cover art just so, titling tracks exactly right, even separating tracks that have needed separating for years (Heaven & Hell by Vangelis is my recent favourite example). It’s a pleasure not unadjacent to getting a mix tape just right Back In The Day.
So there may be a compensatory bright side to look on. Perhaps.

Can you please reference the steve huffman piece? My Born to run Cd sounds rather muffled too! Unlike the remastered badlands or tracks cds or recent Bruce CDs.Thanks
