My favourite tribute band - ‘Earth, Wind and For Hire’

Rather like the Illegal Eagles bassist who introduced the guitarists as “two of the world’s finest guitarists…in their price range”.

I don’t have a problem with tribute bands. I am only interested in the music & prefer the artists not to try & look like the originals. However, I like the fact the music is kept alive via live performance & not just recordings.

It’s worth noting that classical music is & has been played by many different artists/performers for hundreds of years & no one objects about it.

Good point re. PF having no dominant personality to emulate, making the tribute bands job a bit easier, just needing to concentrate on the music.

Definitely. And with bands only having a finite time on this earth (even the Rolling Stones !), the music has to live on

I’ve heard ‘tribute’ Doors bands and some can be pretty good I guess, but the ones who impersonate and copy the band’s mannerisms on stage (that I’ve seen on YT)…why would I want to go see a copycat Jim, Ray…it’s weird.

I did see Broadway Clash who were great, but they didn’t copy The Clash physically or stage show.

Michael Kiwanuka at the Hammersmith Apollo this evening. Just sublime - I doubt that I will see a better concert this year. Sound, lighting, band and singers were just perfect. And MK himself is just special.

And a shoutout to his guitarist - Michael Jablonka. He is a master of the psych-soul guitar and the expression he brings to his sound reminds me in many ways of David Gilmour

Fish and chums, last show until the re-union in a couple of years… nice set, tad too much bass in the mix but that could just be due to some new hearing protectors I was wearing.

It was emotional. Lovely send off for the big man.

Yep, he seemed to enjoy it… the ‘My name is Derek’ sign off at the end was poignant. The web store is down also.

That is a healthy sized crowd. How was the sound, that venue looks a bit acoustically challenged but looks can be deceiving?

David Gray at Portsmouth Guildhall last night. Great concert, but challenging sometimes due to paralytic people ruining some it for us.

Heap, that would have been amazing I’m sure. I have the Bluray of an early full playing of Marbles. Haven’t seem them live since the late 90’s in Cambridge. Always put on a fantastic show.

I think it’s about 2,500 that come here to Port Zelande, from something like 45 different countries. The concert venue is a bespoke build for the 4 nights of music, 3 of which are Marillion. The sound was very good for the most part.

Darkside The Pink Floyd Show…Theatre on the Steps Bridgnorth last night. Great show and lovely venue. Reading the programme this morning, the inspiration to form the band was when 14 year old Andy Baker saw Pink Floyd at Birmingham Hippodrome in 1974…I was at the same gig…a little older.

Had a very good concert this evening. The highlight being Poulenc Piano Concerto with the brothers Jussen. The first time I saw them live. Perhaps the only Dutch guy in the audience
