No ‘Loaded’? Oh dear - not like the Scream
It’s there at number 12.
No Loaded?
Unthinkable.
Duh!
Yep. that’s how he was with Rotterdam Phil conducting Bruckner 3.
Hope to catch him again. I am realising now that he sounds a lot better than his recordings.
I’m inclined to agree. I’ve never been fully wowed by his recordings. But the performances live are a different issue.

Concluding this years Passion Marathon is the rarely performed Bach St. Markus Passion on the Good Friday back in Koln.
I have never heard this piece before. Compared to his two other Passions, this is low key and say, subtler? He recites some tunes from the other Passions. Start out with a strong chorus including Children’s choir and all the soloists are solid (except the soprano which her voice in high register hurts my ears) Less drama but I appreciated the Tenor’s excellent animated reading. But somehow can’t quite retain the excitment more of intimate outing. It was beautifully done. Less blood.
Tidier orchestra void of Viola de Gamba or lute.
And Ton is very very short! And 81!
Interesting that there were many parents attending this program with young children.
P.S. @Richard.Dane Thanks for restoring my original moniker!
Went to see the Lathums in the foyer at the DeLa Warr Pavillion in Bexhill-on-Sea. It was a taster concert put on by “Music’s Not Dead” - the record store in the foyer. Only short but very cheery and intimate. They were less than 10 feet away (for everybody)!
The second show of The Privateers was as good as the first but tonight we had a real treat, Peter Howarth, current lead singer with the Hollies for 20 years.
He was exceptional, playing music from The Hollies, Roy Orbison, Cliff Richard and The Moody Blues, backed up by the house band who we excellent as well. We have a second show to look forward to.
We’ve been lucky this trip, often the entertainment is based around X-Factor rejects so to have these acts has been a real surprise.
Went to see China crisis at Stockton arc small venue but a brilliant gig. It was like the band were playing just for you the sound was superb the band were amazing. Gary was on top form so so funny made all the crowd join in and the good thing is you felt like you wanted to join in one of the best gigs I’ve been to for a long time music and comedy all night excellent
A bloke, a guitar, a beret. Richard Thompson at the Apex Bury St Eds. Ranged across his work from Fairport’s Genesis Hall to (last years?) Singapore Sadie. Highlights were a blinding 1952 Vincent Black Lightning and a gorgeous Beeswing.
Sorry sh*t pic
William Basinski at the Union Chapel last night. The New York avant-garde/electronic/ambient composer played a single piece of music for the show. Beautiful and elegiac
Great venue
It was a great show. My first time at the Chapel, but based on the sound last night, it won’t be my last.
It was a fantastic concert wasn’t it? Not fussed about the support but Basinski was brilliant (and a real character!). Glad you liked the venue - I think it has some of the best acoustics in London and I always enjoy coming here.
Mary Coughlan playing at the RNCM Manchester. One of the friends I was with described her as a force of nature, she has immense presence and charisma between songs. Then she starts singing and you’re dragged into the music, and every ounce of emotion is there in her voice, a tour de force of jazz blues singing with a fantastic trio behind her.
Christopher Cross and Toto at the Spark Arena in Auckland. The tour reviews out of Australia had been fantastic, so grabbed the opportunity to see them in Auckland, and indeed, it was superb.
I wasn’t too familiar with Christopher Cross, so I made up a playlist in advance. It was quality stuff with an excellent band and backing vocalists. He did have a hitch with the wireless transmitter on the electric guitars, so he used an acoustic guitar for the second half of his set, though that didn’t seem to detract much at all. Still in great vocal form and a lovely set.
Toto, were, well, what can be said? This is a version of the band totally on top of their game. Very accomplished and tight. No flash stage show, just a band in great form rocking it out on stage. Lukather? What can be said about his playing - one of the best of the older guys on the circuit. The whole band is just a whose who in the rock scene. Keyboardist played on Jackon’s Thriller.
I did a stage rush for Africa!
If you get a change to see this tour, do it. We are very lucky to have these older bands still going in such form. It won’t last for ever.
The Christopher Cross guitar solo on ride like the wind is amazing. Only trouble was the original mix it was difficult to hear, there are now some videos online which shows how good he really is on guitar.
