Seeing these in three weeks at Trentham Gardens, Stoke. They are always great.
Iron Maiden, Glasgow Hydro, 30th June. Spectacular stage set and probably the best I have ever seen them play.
We went to Newmarket races to see Richard Ashcroft close the day. A very enjoyable day out, and a great set from Ashcroft.
He quipped that he preferred to be here, rather than at Glasto.
Robyn Hitchcock last night deep in the hold of The Golden Hinde London, the last of three nights there. Lovely set, lots of very early stuff, in fine voice and finger style guitar. The encore being “A Day In The Life”, only Robyn could get away with that on acoustic guitar.
Interesting venue maybe 80 people max, not for the claustrophobic. A splendid time guaranteed for all!
Elbow at the Castlefield Bowl, Manchester last night. A set list containing material old and new with plenty of opportunities for audience participation.
Their music really comes alive when they play outdoors.
Oasis at Cardiff stadium, first night of the tour Friday night. One hell of a gig. Support by Richard Ashcroft (formerly The Verve front man) had the stadium in a frenzy before the main act arrived. Atmosphere was electric before, during and after the show. The crowd boisterous very good natured. Sound was par for the course for a large stadium with closed roof.
They are not everyone’s cup of tea, but for this who appreciate them this was a very special night indeed….
Good to see Ashcroft got a good reception. I saw him at Newmarket a few days ago. (see above).
Tommy Emmanuel last Friday as part of Montreal jazz festival. Seventy years old, mending broken ribs and a two hour concert. Guy is continually on the road. Have seen him on many occasions and places. He has still master of his craft. Absolute legend.
Was in Glasgow last week to see Iron Maiden!
They played all the old stuff, bloody fantastic.
Its 50 years since they formed so a special year.
A rare live music event for us, but great. Relaxed, well organised outdoor gig. BC Camplight was interesting and engaging, English Teacher trying a bit too hard, but Hawley and his band excellent. Dry, self-deprecating humour and that voice. Cole’s Corner has become a classic 20 yrs on.
Bruce
Richard Hawley is fantastic live and I’ve been to see him a number of times since Coles Corner was released as that was when I first discovered him. The celebration of that album includes a mini tour in the autumn and I’m going to the Blackpool date.
Give us a clue!
As per the post the band is ever Slayer or Finsbury Park.
Can you guess what it is yet?
A cello concert in the Crystal Grotto at Painshill Park in Surrey yesterday afternoon, absolutely delightful. These performances continue into next week, well worth a visit, the acoustic very well suited to a small ensemble, lovely way to start the week.
Sounds lovely ! and good program, too.
Ludovico Einaudi at Edinburgh Castle (on the Esplanade)
Very enjoyable concert with a great position and great sound for an outdoor show. A very dynamic performance, helped by a large ensemble and even Ludovico leading the crowd in clapping patterns - much more interaction than his other concerts I’ve attended.
The venue could have been anywhere as none of the castle was on show due to seating and staging. Entry was a nightmare with a very large queue snaking up and down the Royal Mile. I saw three stewards and no barriers until just before the one entry point. The venue was an appealing idea but just an inappropriate space for such a show.
