Were there any other very long standing Arkestra members other than Knoel Scott in the lineup? When I saw them back in 1989 and 1990 he was in the lineup (next to Marshall and John Gilmore) and looking pretty much the youngest man in the band.
Looks like Vince Chancey on French Horn is in one of the photos - another ‘veteran’.
Quite a few from the late 80’s that you would have seen. Ignore the two colours, it’s just where I was looking up names.

Marshall is by all accounts fit and well but he can’t travel because his very advanced age means that insurance is prohibitively expensive

Yeah, I read that he doesn’t fly now - I presume internationally. At 101, I don’t think I would either!

Thanks - Trumpeter Michael Ray for sure, I thought I recognised him on the photo. The other trumpeter I recall seeing was Ahmed Abdullah but he isn’t in this current lineup.
The other two I fondly recall from your list are percussionists Elson Nascimento and Jorge Silva. Jorge was doing acrobatics/cart wheels in his cape and, if I recall correctly, plate spinning and fire breathing out front whilst Ra, June Tyson and the band were riffing away. Health and safety wouldn’t like it now - those were the days.

Bless him - he was at drawing his pension age already when I last saw him 36/37 years ago ! Playing ferosciously I recall - both he and John Gilmore doubled on saxes and snare drums !

I saw them pre-Covid at Cafe OTO and I was outside having a fag during the interval and he was there, holding court among his many admirers while puffing away on a big fat spliff. He must have been in his mid 90s at the time!

My favourite venue of all time, been there countless times. It was built (used to drive past it every day for work) first and foremost for sound quality. As an aside there’s a smaller venue by the same designer down the road in Sunderland, ‘The Fire-Station’ again great sound. Performers usually remark about all three.

The main hall of the Glasshouse is decoupled from the main building and you can see the gap as you walk up the stairs. Hall 2 is smaller but has 10 sides (the only one when built, it may still be). Our daughter and son-in-law both worked there during Uni times so I’ve good knowledge of it. Still prefer the original name ‘The Sage’ though.
They occasionally do ‘walks’ on the glass roof!

I went to see Pat Metheny and his current group in Ravenna last night. He has somewhat returned to the classic Pat Metheny Group sound this year, and set the venue on fire by the end. He was in top form yesterday. The last encore, “Are You Coming With Me” was breath-taking.

Off to see Hypnotic Brass Ensemble at Jazz Cafe. Only wish it was an outdoor venue. Scorchio!
Beat in Pompeii, together with my wife and my eldest son who flew over from Berlin. What an amazing experience, I had bought Discipline on cassette when it came out in 1981 and for a while it was on constant rotation in my little Mini. Definitely one of my favourite KC albums, and to experience 2 original members Adrian Belew and Tony Levin plus Steve Vai and Danny Carey play that material was mind blowing. The energy, and at their respective ages, was something to behold. A truly special event.

Nice to see them still going. They certainly had a lot of energy in Gothenburg 1988 on the Hysteria tour. I was 17.

Metallica - London Stadium - No Repeat Weekend.
Two excellent nights - both setlists equally as strong and great performances throughout.
In the round is an interesting concept, but a stage of this size means getting a good view isn’t always guaranteed. Got a much better position for night 2 than night 1.

Canadian metal heroes Anvil last night in Winnipeg! Anvil received wide recognition after the 2013 documentary about them (Anvil! The Story of Anvil) was compared to . . . Spinal Tap. Yes: a real live version of the mockumentary icons. Since then, Anvil has been recognized by many as the inventors of speed metal. Others may have done it better, but Anvil did it first! Still going at it at 70 years of age - and having the greatest time ever doing it. What a fun night at the Park Theatre, a night when the pure and simple joy of music shone through.

Hard to believe the Anvil recorded an album in Kent just down the road from me. ‘This is Thirteen’ at The Ecology Room recording studio in Deal, Kent.
I recall from watching The Anvil Story that Chris Tsangarides was living on the cliff above St. Margaret’s Bay.
